Well, you'll never get 4% on a $20/mo investment, more likely .75% in a money market account. There aren't any financial investments you can buy for $20/month.

However, you can invest $20 a month into your business for state-of-the-art software, although I have no idea whey anyone would need 1TB of Adobe Cloud when you have unlimited image storage with the 20GB plan.

Unlimited if using Smart Previews. I have over 4TB in files stored locally.

I've got the subscription version. I just upgraded to LRC version 11.0 with its AI selection tools and layer masks. I've been playing around with it all afternoon. They just released it today. I pushed a button and now I have it. No extra charge.

Now I could take my subscription price and compound it over 40 years, or I can buy Lightroom with AI selection tools. Eyes wide open, I choose LR knowing that I'll die poorer. I'll be fine, but thanks for your concern.

Yes, unlimited smart previews. This gives me the ability to do anything I want with the images no matter where I am and on any device. I have over 6 TBs locally, and over 34k images (smart previews) on my adobe cloud. I usually delete client collections after about 6 months.

Each person has their own priorities in life, and are willing to make different trade-offs. Knowing real costs allow people to make wiser decisions.

Consider this historical fact:
"The S&P 500 gained value in 40 of the past 50 years, generating an average annualized return of 10.9% despite the fact that only a handful of years actually came within a few percentage points of the actual average."
During the 1980s it was possible to get 14%-15% returns on money...I did, and there was little risk in doing so!
Bank savings account rates certainly have been attrocious, and putting money into CDs has yielded little additional in the past decade. Nevertheless, "if we had invested $8,000 in the S&P 500 index in 1980, our investment would be nominally worth approximately $934,023.27 in 2021."

This thread is exciting! Intrigue. Humor. Anger. Remorse. And MATH! It has it all!!!

Every time I take account of my little monthly payments I go through the same thoughts as many above. Cell phone, Cable TV, separate email at localnet.com that I have had since 1999, Netflix, Adobe Photoshop, Apple iCloud (plus now), Smugmug.....I realize no big deal. I don't smoke, I don't drink. So I can afford the rest. LOL.

I find the Adobe product pretty darn nice. I wish I had more time to use it. :)

OMG I can't even imagine paying that much for coffee. . I am a real coffee lover, and drink two pots a day, almost every day throughout the year. . But I manage to keep my coffee costs down to around $250 per year. . I make it myself and fill two big thermoses and then take them with me wherever I go during the day. . I enjoy it more than Starbuck's coffee, and the two pots' worth cost a very slight fraction of what just one cup of Starbuck's would cost me. . And making my own two pots of coffee takes less time than it would take for someone to stop by a Starbucks and get coffee on their way to work. . My coffee is better, it costs far less, it takes less time, and it is more convenient.

If someone can truly afford to drink Starbucks coffee on a daily basis, then they can certainly afford to pay for a sub to Adobe CC (by quitting their bad coffee decisions and using that $ for software instead). . If you can't afford Adobe CC, then you can't afford to buy your daily coffee at Starbuck's.

.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

I was a stockbroker and registered options principal for 12 years and have been investing in the market since 1987...yes...1987..remember what happened that year? I am well aware of the benefits of investing in financial markets.

My point was..you can't invest in *any* market for $20..this isn't a realistic comparison...$20 won't even cover most commissions! In fact, you would be hard pressed to find anyone that would start a money market account with $20.

So...buy your Adobe plan, make money with your photography skills and save up until you can open an investment account.

Excellent!!!

Some folks spend more at Starbucks a year than I spend on my cars.....

For me, it has nothing to do with what I could do with the money, in terms of investments or anything else. It's more a question of whether an item offers the value for the price being asked. While I can certainly afford the $120 per year that Adobe is now asking for Lightroom, I just did not see the value in it for my particular circumstances versus the previous pricing under their perpetual licensing model. In my case, the cost for Lightroom almost quadrupled under the subscription model, and I did not see where the product was worth four times what I had been paying. Basically, Adobe wanted me to pay for Photoshop along with Lightroom even though I never use PS.

I instead found an alternative that meets my needs at a cost that I find acceptable -- DxO PhotoLab.

BTW, I don't buy coffee at Starbucks, either, nor do I spend the huge markup for designer label clothing. Neither offer value to me, although they may to others.

For bundling discounts I use a single provider for cell, cable and internet. Monthly that cost me more than to heat both my house and cottage and and our temps go down to -30 Celsius.

I like DXO but I don't like the company. I purchased PL3 in 2019. The Canon R5 came out in August of 2020. No Raw support until Nov when PL4 came out and I would have had to pay to get it. C1 and Adobe had support within 6 weeks, which is about the standard time. Not sure about other competitors. That was 2nd and last time DXO kicked me in the groin. I don't care how good Prime is, DXO will never see another dime of my money.
