Question,

I’ve been shooting with a 1DX first version for many years and decided to treat myself to a R5. I shoot a bit of everything from wildlife to sports coverage for a local college but now I’m beating myself up in the head while I wait for delivery wondering if I made the wrong choice and should have gone with the R6 for better low light. Will I regret my decision???

Nope, did the same move, bought the adapter so that I could use my existing lenses.

Had a problem with my 500mm f4.0 IS USM that it would not stop trying to focus. Bought the RF 100-500 and have never been happier.

1/2 the weight, and bigger ISO performance.

I know that there are people who are having problems with unexplained lockups, but so far I have not had a problem.

I would not go back.

Get out there and do some shooting and enjoy!

Good to hear. I was concerned that I would be disappointed shooting indoor sports and not getting clean shots due to the sensor size compared to the 1DX version 1

I just bought an R5 yesterday to go along with my 1DX. I thought the sensors were the same size. Am I wrong?

The R6 is the same. Not the R5

I thought the R5 and the 1DX were both full frame cameras. What am I missing?

The Canon R5, R6 and 1DX are all full frame cameras. They have different pixel densities.

This is a good explanation.

Sorry for being dense but yes, the pixels are different (R6 - 20, R5 - 45 and 1DX - 18) but what does that have to do with the sensor size? The sensors are the same size - 36X24 on all three of the cameras.

In general the rule of thumb was the greater the pixel density, the more noise that was present especially at higher iso settings.

This has been offset by the advances in noise reduction as systems progress, so IMHO the R5 compared to the 1DX has better noise control at much higher iso settings.

And everybody who claim they know anything, say that higher pixel density does not give more noise, as long as you view the image at the same size. You'll notice if you look at it on the same pixel level, but then you have magnified the higher resolution image more.

I have both the 1DX mk1 & R6 and use them both. I do not know what it is about the 1DX but images it produces can still surprise me, its like the sensor has magic pixels!!
