Taken using a 4X microscope objective mounted on approx 160mm of tubes on Sony A6000 body. I've solved the flare problem I was getting by swapping out some cheap M42 ext tubes for my original canon fit ext tubes. Some of the shots are focus stacks using zerene. All handheld.

These are fantastic Brian. If you are using 160 mm of tubes, have you looked at one of these https://www.venuslens.net …24mm-f-14-2x-macro-probe/ (external link)

Terrific pictures! I keep looking for globular springtails, but never see them.
The mini mushrooms are possibly the fruiting bodies of a slime mold. Strange things, slime molds...

Thanks Ed.
I have seen that lens but seems a bit specialised and expensive.

Thanks for the comments Mark. At this time of year I have a hard time not finding springtails in the garden- they seem to be everywhere first thing in the morning. Pretty sure the fungus is a fungus rather than a slime mould.

Thanks Dave- Yes the mag does come out to close to 4X and with the crop body over 6X print mag.

Get a few buckets full of leaf litter and you will have loads in a few weeks.

You and I will have to agree to disagree about terminology like "print magnification". Magnification is fixed when you press the shutter. Everything that is done after an image is taken to make the subject look larger in the frame is simply an enlargement. Not understanding basic concepts like magnification and enlargement has led some to think that they can multiply every aspect of photography by the crop factor of their sensor. No need to re-write the rules of photography, or physics, due to a simple crop that is functionally no different than cropping a full frame image in post...
