Hi, I'm sure this has been beat to death but...I have been using lightroom 4 from a disc for many years and now have upgraded my windows computer and am wanting to try some new software. I am wanting something similar to lightroom as far as photo cataloging and such that is hopefully not subscription based. Any feedback is much welcomed.

I think ON1 has a catalogue and claims it can import the LR catalogue. C1 Pro claims to have a catalogue. I don't think any of those are as sophisticated as LR. There are some 3rd party catalogue systems out there.

Some 3rd party DAM if you can't find a replacement. Although not like LR people have switched to Affinity which is a PS replacement. If you are fond of Adobe there is Elements as well.

Take a look at Darktable. I've not used it, but I expect to be trying it fairly soon. I've watched a couple of youtube videos on it, it looks like a good Lightroom alternative, and it's free.

I was looking at Darktable the problem was it doesn't support the R5. I ended up giving On1 a try.

On1 Photo Raw does NOT have a full database DAM like LrC, C1, and other full feature editors. It can not do smart collections/albums.

Anybody else having problems getting onto the Darktable site? I'm on a Mac and both Safari and Firefox tell me the connection is not secure and turning off every security measure and extension I have doesn't matter, both browsers insist I cannot go there.

I did download the app from the Github site but I would very much like to have access to the user forum.

Anybody any idea? I'm on an old Mac Pro that's running High Sierra (I'll be going to a new Mac in a while, hence the need for Adobe alternatives).

By the way, I bought Infinity Photo for both Mac and iPad. They have a discount at the moment. And damn, it opens the raw files from my R6 without any problem. That was a nice surprise. I won't need to convert to dng any longer.

C1P DAM capabilities far outstrip those in LrC. You can put your images in a Session, a referenced Catalog, or a managed Catalog). You can move your images from a Session to a Catalog. All kinds of capabilities for naming destination folders plus naming/renaming image files. Naturally you can create albums and smart albums....plus projects and groups.

If you mean Affinity Photo, yes, it's updated regularly with the newest camera models.

Off-topic, I also find that Affinity Denoise is excellent - I prefer it to Topaz Denoise. A high-pass layer on top finishes most of my images without any need of Topaz Sharpen. (I have both Denoise and Sharpen).
