The Great Pyrenees is an ancient breed that was developed over the centuries in the Great Pyrenees Mountains as guardians of sheep flocks against predators such as wolves. The breed is large and muscular with exceptionally strong jaws. One asset of the Great Pyrenees which aids it in combat with wolves is the long, heavy mane of hair around the neck. This can act as protection against the bite of the wolf.

Serena is small for the breed but, at 80-pounds she is still formidable in warning off intruders - be they animal or human.IMAGE LINK: https://photos.smugmug.com …RENA_6158-X2.jpg&lb=1&s=A
The G.P. is not a biter - she uses her size and demeanor with a loud and aggressive bark to deter intruders. But. I would not want to trespass into an area that is being protected by a Pyrenees.
BTW: My Serena absolutely LOVES kids and I have heard that this is generally true for the breed. This is Serena at six months old...IMAGE LINK: https://photos.smugmug.com …KIDS_4927-X2.jpg&lb=1&s=A
