It was a four day trip for my wife's birthday - the weather was mixed but we definitely made the most of it - majority of the gallery was shot with the RF 24-70 with a few of the seals / glacier lake with the RF 100-500. The northern lights were awesome to see (on the eve of her birthday which made it even better) as neither of us had seen them before - I made a right hash of trying to shoot them, including accidently turning off IS whilst hand holding but hey 'we saw them ;-)a '

Gallery HERE (external link) if you are interested

We will go back again for longer once funds allow - SO many photo opps

.DAVID.

Love that second one
Colours and windblown waves make a very nice scene

Trip down to Belfast this afternoon to visit family, so threw the R3 and EF400 f2.8 in the boot on the off chance of taking in a sporting event somewhere in the vicinity. Thankfully there was some league hockey being played within a few minutes of my destination so made a quick exit to the venue and arrived just in time for the ko.
Rather than shooting in M mode, I tried AV for a change, with Auto ISO and a shutter speed range for 1/2000 to 1/64000. I also swapped single point AF for the customised portrait size zone AF and have to say I was pleased with the overall results, particularly as the game was played in bright sunshine, which is normally a curse on the R3.
I found the AF acquisition was actually slightly crisper with the zone than single point which surprised me, but I can only conclude that the bigger target area was easier for the camera to work with in the harsh sunlight than the single point.

Out again with the R3 last night in Belfast for some International football between Northern Ireland and Finland. Shot tethered and hand held with the EF200-400 combo. Flat out for 90+ minutes taking photos, editing, captioning and sending throughout the game. Ended up sending almost 80 images from the match. One handed, one eyed typing is a must have skill when working for media outlets. ;-)a

Really not a footy fan at all but your skill in catching the moment - faultless (I know we never get to see the missed shots BUT - credit where credit is due).

Multi tasking is def a must for sports shooting that's for sure

Thanks David, I do miss a few, but generally its either my fault rather than the camera. When I'm editing as the play continues I listen to the reaction of the crowd to give me warning of action happening close that I should be capturing.
