Rob,

how are you liking the RF TC's? I picked up a RF400 yesterday so my next mission is the TCs. Do you think they are better than the VER. III EF mounts?

I cant find a many reviews of them online. Someday I'll sell off my 600F4 and go RF on that one too but probably not until summer when things are booming.

Hi David, Congrats on the Rf 400 it is by far my favorite lens. I am finding the RF extenders work a bit better than the EF version. That is about the only difference over using the EF version lens. I think they are worth getting including the 2x.

After the minibikes practice session had finished on Sunday, I noticed a few karts being lined up to be let out on the track that the bikes had been running on. No racers here, but rather a stag/hen do, but nonetheless another opportunity to try the R3 on another type of vehicle.
Nothing high speed unfortunately, but the camera AF tracked the drivers helmets very well. Might try and get a run out with some of the real race karts some day if the opportunity arises.

One other difference would be that with the EF lens you can use the Control Ring adapter and have that extra functionality. With the RF 400 & 600 L lenses, they decided not to include a control ring.

Does anyone know why Canon decided to do that? I've looked around and couldn't find an explanation.

Canon said you can configure the focus ring on the RF Supertele lenses to do that..

As i don't have my RF600 yet, i just know from a friend the setting on the R5 is not there.. but the R3 should have it in the menu.

Great images!

Thanks for keeping us informed.

It is also nice to see images from an EF 300 f/2.8 II.
(I own one, and look forward to using it on an R3.....if and when it ever shows..... :p)

I have not seen that nor can I find it in the custom function settings.

Do you have a link to where you saw that?

I read it on a german canon ambassadors blog..

Found an english text also:

The focus ring is electronic and it can be programmed to become a control ring. Both lenses come with 52mm screw in drop-in filter holder and filter.

This is interesting, hadn't seen it. It is still strange that they didn't include a proper control ring. The focus/control ring combo exists in many non-L lenses, though AFAIK it is always through a physical switch.

I found it and, yes, the Focus ring can be configured into a control ring.

AF Menu / page 6 / Focus/Control Ring...3rd item down.

The 'Nifty Fifty" RF 50mm f/1.8 STM Lens also does not contain a Control Ring as such. Probably too short. But, there is a switch on the lens body to assign the function to the ring as either Control or Focus.
