Anyone interested I also tested the EF 400mm III vs the RF 400 in the AF department and did not notice any difference between them. However they do both focus faster on the R3 vs the R5. Nothing scientific just actual use and nothing notable.

Another point is if you use the R3 in full silent mode the shutter close feature does not work and is grayed out. If you turn the silent feature off it closes like the R5. This is strange seeing the R5 only has full silent and it closes. Hopefully this is addressed in a firmware.

Yes these minor annoyances can be fixed via fw although if they are already in R5, they should be sent in working form on R3 as well.

Thank you for the continuous feedback Rob. I think the mechanics and higher power battery combo drive the lens faster. I felt the difference when I moved from 1dxii to R5

Edit to the above. I had a feature called full silent turned on, this makes the camera completely silent thus the reason the shutter protection not closing. I did not realize it was turned on. Turning that off and being in ES will be silent and the shutter protection closes now. My mistake as the feature worked as it was intended.

I spent a lot of time today chasing my kids around, trying out most of my EF glass, playing with the eye control, and really just getting a good handle on the camera. Canon really hit it out of the park with this one. It has no trouble driving EF glass, and I don’t notice any accuracy issues or missed shots compared to the RF lenses. It does however drive EF lenses faster than the R5. On certain lenses it’s a substantial difference. Particularly the super teles.

Driving the focusing motors faster is more likely due to the higher voltage of the battery. That's how it's always been (between the 1D* bodies vs. non).

lol. May take upwards of 6 months to fulfill order if someone's planning to buy the R3 now. Guess it's going to take awhile for me to get mine. I should call up BH to see how far back on the bus I am.

Yes, I've always notice that on my 1series cameras. I figured that would be the case with the R3 and RF glass, but I'm glad it can pass that through the adapter into EF glass as well.

Shot with R3 and RF 28-70 F2.0L at 49mm F2.0, 1/800, ISO 800. Straight out of camera except for downsizing.

So far no issues, seems better than my gripped R5 by percentage left after a day of shooting. I have not shot anything very demanding yet. I also leave wifi, gps etc off so not sure with that stuff all active.

lol. Got 2 conflicting emails from BH this morning so I had to call and get it cleared. Looks like my preorder is closer to the back end of the line. With some luck, 2023 for me. I'll just have to enjoy the photos from the 3 of yoots that have one.
