Out for years, casual shooter 5DM3 used vs EOS R only using EF lens, what to get?

I only take kids photos. Kids are older, 5D OG no longer works. Only will use 50 F1.2 and 70-200 2.8IS2. Will not buy new lens.

Could use some help, 5DM3 are sub $1k in near new condition. Is the EOS R a big step up, its my other consideration? Will the EF lens be as good on the EOS R since it was designed for RF lens?

I wanted the 5DM3 when it was new, I know it will fully get the job done. Is the EOS R that much better considering I will not upgrade lens for the 2 EF lens I have.

Thank you for any input

If you plan on upgrading, then perhaps the R series is for you. However, it seems a waste of money if you are happy with the 5dm3 images. Plus good lenses are generally cheaper for the EF mount system since the other makers such as Tamron and Sigma are available.

I don't have a 5D3 yet, still using my 5D classis. Time for an upgrade and looking to see what I would get with a EOS R over a used 5D3. Thanks

I ordered my EOS R from Canon on friday, it's on a delivery truck for today's delivery. It cost me $1279 before tax, card, and adapter control ring. I used canon's loyalty upgrade program. You supply them with the SN of your old camera. They don't ask for a trade-in.

Phone # is (866) 443-8002.

Lou- I'm thinking of doing the same. Does the loyalty program give you a new or refurbished EOS R? Was shipping free like their website claims? Thanks!

Yes, Brand New. A refurb is also available and I inquired about that. The discount is less, so the refurb would have been $17. more. My new camera came today. Just waiting for my adapter/controller ring. When Canon gets a refurb 24/105 L lens I will be getting that.

I can't tell you which way to go, but I will tell you if you decide to stick with the 5D series, skip the 5D3 and just get the 5D4. Yes, it is that much better than the 5D3.

Congrats!

I went from 5d2 to EOS R. Not a single regret.

Kind regards, Wim

From my use on the R6, I think that EF lenses are as good if not better on the R bodies.

Not duckster, but as good or better than the same lens on an EOS dslr...

That is my experience too.

Kind regards, Wim

Yes, sorry if not clear. I have found the EF lenses to be as good and sometimes better on the R bodies than they were on my DSLR bodies

I used to own a 5D3 and bought a EOS R a couple of years ago. I found I was no longer using the 5D3, so sold it and have not missed the camera since. My EF glass works seamlessly on the EOS R.

I do want to upgrade to the R6 or R5, but will keep the EOS R as a 2nd body -- I sold my 7D2 a while ago, so only have a single full size body right now (also have a M50).
