and I though Dali was in Nepal... I like the first but just wanted to see what the elephants were standing on. The second would look great as a B&W or sepia toned image.

It looks like a very interesting place, and one that I would love to visit. Do you know the background to the elephant shot, and where the covered walkway is leading to in the second shot?

Thanks for sharing Dali pictures. What is the best time to visit Yunnan?

Another interesting place! Seems like you get to travel all over the world frequently. I envy you :) What do you do (other than making great photographs)?

I sell pencil, and the pressure is getting to high that can't stand it. So I took a 6 days trip with my friend to China.

Check out this site, you can find some more.

I would love to take a trip to China. Just wondering... would it be better to join a tour from Hong Kong or just a "gwai lo" tour from Toronto? I know for sure it would be cheaper to join from HK but wondering if there is any benefit joining a "gwai lo" tour?

It depends where you want to go. Most of the tours from HK are limited to certain region only. For instance: Shanghai-Suzhou-Hangzhou region, Yunnan province, Guilin area etc.

Last year when I went to China I opted for a 10 day Beijing-Wuxi-Suzhou-Hangzhou-Shanghai-Xian tour operated by a Los Angeles travel operator. My China trip gallery :

I think you will have more choices if you take a tour straight from Toronto.

It doesn't matter you join a tour from HK or Toronto, once you arrive in China, all tours are operated by China's local guides.

Richard,
You took some nice pictures! I really like the ones at Shanghai. I was there twice on business but I didn't take any camera equipments. Did you take those night shots handheld or on tripod. I am just thinking back when I was there, it woul dbe pretty hard to setup tripod to shoot with all the people traffic around :D

William,
Those shots were taken handheld from the boat. I had the IS on (on my EF-S 17-85 lens).
