For those who have seen other models be replaced:

Will retailers continue to sell the 20D 18-75 kit for around $1,500 till they are all sold, or do you think they will discount them soon.

Most retailers I have visited in person, are selling them for full price ^, until they are gone, and they are moving. Many stores don't have them at all anymore and are not getting in more shipments.

I know the normal supply and demand principle. The prediction I'm looking for is when do you think the 20D will hit terminal velocity, and sales will erode by way of the 30D, before retailers will discount them?

What has history told us? 1 month, 3 months, 6 month, never? (after the release of a newer model)

I like the 20D, but at $1,500 is is about $300 over my price and I still need some more things, as I shoot a Nikon film body currently.

I know this is always the case in electronics, but my biggest concern (mainly because we are so close to a new model release date) is that if I pull the trigger now, it will dump in price is 1-3 months.

Or should I just screw it and get the D70s

Do you have any equipment invested in Nikon. Namely lenses and flashes? If so why not just stay with Nikon, they take just about as good of quality pictures as the Canon equivalents. If you want a cheaper 20D, why not just search the boards, people are all the time unloading for a bigger model. Used doesn't always mean abused.

Thanks for a reply to the newb! I was trying to make it flame-proof.

I have a few lenses, nothing to shake a stick at, but to get the Canon equiv I would need to spend about net $500, as I can only get around $200 if I sell the lenses I have.

Resale value is still really good for the 20D from what I can tell. I haven't seen a used one go for too much less than new (.80 factor). Good for owners, bad for me.

I'm thinking since the 30D is evolutionary and not revolutionary, there will not be a price dump on the 20D, but I was hoping that somebody would let me know otherwise.

I have no problem going used though, thanks for the suggestion.

I really want to like the D70s, but the higher ISO noise and little viewfinder doesn't do it for me, I'm neutral on all other positives and negatives on each.

You could take a look over in the For Sale section. I just listed my 20-D a couple of hours ago...

Keep this in mind: B&H still sells new 10D cameras for $800.

Excellent point, I did think about that after my OP.

I just bought the 30D, so go figure. What budget? Ha ha.

For being electronics, they do keep their value very well. I hope they are built to last.

Congratulations on the 30D. I went from a Nikon film body to Canon digital as well - it took me a few days to really get used to the feel and now I love it. I couldn't be happier with the results from the 30D - just beautiful.
