ACR is designed to take RAW data from a number of different cameras, and read them into the 16-bit workspace of LR and PS...it is not a generic RAW-to-workspace module.

What would you assume it convert RAW data into what workspace?!

You need to give me OK to edit your image and repost! Keep POTN alive and well with member support https://photography-on-the.net/forum/donate.php
Canon dSLR system, Olympus OM 35mm system, Bronica ETRSi 645 system, Horseman LS 4x5 system, Metz flashes, Dynalite studio lighting, and too many accessories to mention

Have you seen this ? https://www.photoshopessentials.com …w-in-bridge-vs-photoshop/ (external link)

It shows that ACR can be hosted by Bridge without needing Photoshop or LR :

Camera Raw offers such a complete image editing environment that it's entirely possible to do everything you need to do with your photo in Camera Raw without ever needing to open it in Photoshop for further editing. That's why Adobe gave us the ability not only to select our images in Bridge but also to open and process them in Camera Raw without leaving Bridge, and without needing to open Photoshop. In other words, Camera Raw is perfectly capable of running in Bridge itself, or another way to put it, Camera Raw can be "hosted" by Bridge, just like it can be hosted by Photoshop. It doesn't need Photoshop running in the background, and that means Photoshop won't be hogging any of your computer's resources for no reason.

Did you find that site or start it? I see 3 signatures with the goal of 100. No disrespect but does anyone think Adobe will change a hugely successful subscription business model for 100 signatures? It is never going to happen even with thousands of signatures.

Look into Affinity which is close to PS or other perpetual licensing software.

I started it. The goal of 100 is just a first goal.
I'm not asking Adobe to change their subscription business.
They can keep it for Photoshop and Lightroom and other products.

I'm just asking to make ACR which is basically a plugin available throught a perpetual licence. Nothing more.

And as we say in French : "qui ne tente rien n'a rien".

PS: if you sign the petition we will be 4 ;-)a

ACR was free, updated and freely downloaded plug-in created for PhotoShop Looooooooooooooong before LightRoom existed. It's the only Adobe code that could use RAW files before they finally came out with LightRoom.

It very much was originally a full RAW conversion tool with many features, some of them pioneering and found only in ACR/Photoshop. ACR even predates "CS" versions as it was released in 2003 to update Photpshop 7 (2002)

It only became something one needed to pay for when LR and PS both went subscription. Version 9.something was the last free downloadable version. I believe it remains a fully functional aspect of Photoshop and other Adobe apps.

I'm not going to weigh in the possibility of Adobe backing off of any aspect of their subscription model,. but I will say that those of us that never did go subscription but still use and paid for the older version of the programs we were allowed by the graces of Adobe to actually purchase and own, have also wished for the newer version of ACR to be made available for the new camera compatibility. Even with hundreds of thousands of those paying Adobe customers (initially) asking for it, that made no dent in Adobe's convictions. That lack of flexibility on the subject has paid out for Adobe in a huge way.

I signed up to help up to help you but I see it is asking me to forward this request. I didn't and then got an email. Besides photo forums and email I don't use any type of social media and don't intend to. Does this mean you won't get that vote?

It shows that ACR can be hosted by Bridge without needing Photoshop or LR :

I just tried it an sure enough, I can open a raw and make adjustments, however, there is no way to convert the image from raw (with sidecar changes) into another format, or at least I haven't found it. All I can do is move to the next photo or export it to LR or PS for the actual conversion and export. Am I missing something?

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
