I would be interested to know how you would process the following raw file using (only) ACR 14 ?

https://1fichier.com/?t02ygwau7ujq0n267t2u (external link)

In particular how would you use the luminance mask to have the same sky as in this pic but without the artefacts you can see around the trees ?
Plase share your settings if you post your processed pic.

Thanks.

I tried. I imagine others did too. But it can't be done, and that's why you got no responses. That's the limitation of LR/ACR masking. You would have to go into Photoshop and use some complicated mask refinement techniques to get the job done.

Thanks for your answer and for the try.
Do you have by any chance a link to a tutorial ?

I know you said "only using ACR 14" and I don't know whether it can or can't be done in that program as I don't use it. Here's what you can do in DXO Photolab 5:

ACR is just a plugin for basic development so comparing to a full blown program like PL or others is not really fair.

It's not entirely clear what you are attempting to do - if you are treating the sky to get a dramatic, dark, moody look and preserving the original look of the bird (or want a separate look for the bird), then just apply the look you want to the entire image to get the moody sky and then use ACR masking - Select Subject - to select the bird and apply bird-specific adjustments. The trees have no detail and they add to the mood in silhouette, so there is really no need to try to treat them separately. ACR can handle this task easily, without luminance range masking.

The bird has no importance, neither the pic itself. I just want to improve my skills in selection using masks in ACR or LR. So this is just an exercice to learn.
