Name that star..

First off, not bragging on my astrophotography skills. I was trying for Comet Leonard last night with my Canon 7Ti and 18-55 kit lens. Crashed and burned on that. But I keep getting this bright red star down below Saturn and to the left of Venus. I think it is in Sagittarius. Actually pretty close to where I think Leonard should have been located last night. I've just never gotten a star this red before while trying night sky photography.

Anybody got a clue?

Edit: Capricorn, not Sagittarius.

Planet stuck pixel?


Maybe Mars? I haven't looked at a star chart for probably 30 years. Just ignore me.

My first thought was a bad pixel, but this stays in the same place even as I moved my camera from place to place to keep Venus in the frame.
Also thought it was an airplane in the first photo I saw it, but it never moved.

My guess is it is The Sun.

did you put it into plate solving or if you can't do that post it on astrobin and they will plate solve it for you

Probably a very minor star, I’ve just never captured anything that red before.

I just looked at astrobin, me posting a photo there would be akin to me challenging Michael Jordan to a one on one!

Looks like you may have a hot pixel?
