OK Folks,

a local seller is moving a 5d3 for short money $450 but is has 235681 on the shutter
shutter count states that the shutter ware is at 157%

Would anyone still go for this?

the AF would be a nice upgrade form my trusty old 5d2

thoughts and opinions please?

I guess you could buy it and replace the shutter of your had to. I personally would pass. That's a lot of actuations. The buttons could be worn, dials. Can you go take a look at it?

I buy new stuff when it comes to cameras. I always worry someone dropped something or there is a reason for getting rid of it. My father always said, if it was good they wouldn't be selling it.

Sounds like a lot of fuss.

Price the used body and service to have the shutter box replaced and any other potential major issues and see if you still like the price. I wouldn't buy it for $450. Especially for one generation of tech, albeit a fairly big leap forward in AF for the 5D series.

Very best,

Check ebay Sold listings for this camera. Higher shutter count and as is, even for parts were sold for higher price recently.

The AF is a significant upgrade from the 5D2, that will be the biggest difference. That is a good price for a used 5D3 assuming it does work well. But it's hard for me to offer a objective opinion. I owned and liked the 5D3, but that was so long ago, and after owning a 5D4 for so long, I just cant imagine using the 5D3 again.

5D4 will offer you vastly superior AF and simply amazing jump in image quality. Of course that's a whole other price point.
