My apologies but I haven't posted here in a very long time. Hopefully this post will put me on track to being more interactive on POTN again.

I was in a local park when I spotted a number of White Ibises on the beach. One was carrying what appeared to be a very long 'snake'. When I made my way over to them, I realised that this bird had caught an Eastern Glass Lizard.

I observed it over the next 20 minutes or so trying everything that it could to swallow it. It even spent several minutes in the lake repeatedly dunking it in the water, perhaps hoping that moistening it might help it slide down more easily. It also had to keep it away from other birds.

Despite all of its efforts I never saw it completely succeed.

Image created on Feb 3, 2020 at Sugden Regional Park, Naples, Florida, United States. Cropped to panoramic format.

Very interesting, to see what they will attempt to eat. Did the lizard survive?

Sometimes a bird’s eyes are bigger than his stomach. :-P
Nice story and nice pic!

Nice catch by you and the bird. I've never seen ibis take anything that large.

I finally left after 20 minutes and the Ibis was still trying to swallow it!
