I have batteries for my Canon that I bought from e-forcity on Ebay in 2005. They still work. I bought two more in 2009 in case the previous ones cr@pped out. They're still working.

I replaced those in 2012. They're still work.

I bought two more in 2018 (different seller). They're still work.

Ditto 2020. Still work.

I travel a fair amount, so I buy two new batteries every few years JUST IN CASE.

They're all NiMh batteries. I attribute their longevity to proper storage at ~ 40% capacity and careful charging on a reliable charger.

Wait. I have a pair of Sterlingteks that I bought back in 2005. They worked okay for a few years. They're dead now.

NiMh AA's, on the other hand, are a cr@pshoot. I've bought Eneloops that were duds, and I've bought no-names that are spectacularly good. I've also bough no-names that are spectacularly bad.

I recently bought a pair of no-name lithium batteries with a charger from eBay. We'll see what happens.

If one has little confidence in no-name batteries, he should pay through the nose for big name brands, though I don't think it's particularly good insurance.

Some no-name rechargeable AAs that I bought with a point & shoot from some generic NYC reseller around 2001 or 2002 gave me spectacular life. Expected the worst and got the best. Then got some Energizers that did pretty well, and then some Nuons that were mixed. All of these are probably the better part of ten years old now, or more, and I need to replenish. Eneloops next.
