It's winter in Nova Scotia - big time - but our local eagle population is hanging in there.

Wow. I’m always impressed with your eagle images, Ian, and these are no exception. They’re wonderful. I love that blue sky! Although the first image really shows us the harsh conditions these birds have to live in, in winter.

And is that a crow or raven chasing the eagle in the third image?

Thanks so much Levina, yeaaa I have no idea why they don't migrate. I think that is a raven, just by its overall size and the beak. The eagle has a fish tucked in its talons in that shot and the raven really wanted it.

Ah, that explains the chase. I’m on my iPad and I didn’t see the fish so I wondered why he was going after the eagle. Usually raptors are driven away from other birds’ breeding grounds, but that could obviously not be the case here. Amazing though to take on an eagle like that!

If I were an eagle, or any bird really, I’d migrate! Brrr… :-P
