All lenses in title available on Canon refurb site at the time of this post. Just ordered the 100-500 at $2519 plus tax.

I still fail to see how the 100-500, even refurbished, is worth twice the 100-400, but a topic for another day. I will have to see if the 800 is available though.

The RF 800 is available, but it's $810 + tax refurbished. If you live somewhere with a sales tax, you may as well order a new one from B&H for $899 using their Payboo card, which gives an instant rebate for the amount of the tax. Here in Michigan with our 6% sales tax, the refurb would be $858.60. Saving only $40 isn't worth not getting a new lens, IMO. The savings are even less in states with higher sales tax.

They have a lot of chutzpah charging near new retail prices for refurbished items.

Canon refurb still shows it in stock. I'm surprised, because I thought this lens was in high demand.

I'm also surprised that Adorama has this lens priced $100 more than B&H Photo (both stores showing it on backorder).

I keep thinking about buying the 800, but other than reducing bulk (weight/size), I won't gain much else in the end, from what I can tell. Still deciding, but an $810 price then add taxes and shipping, it just isn't a deal yet.

Totally agree. I remain intrigued by the 800 as well. There would be times I would love to shed some weight and have it be a companion to the 100-400II + 1.4X, but not totally convinced it gets me more than the existing 100-400II + 2X combo otherwise. At it's current refurb price, and with my 8.5% tax rate, a refurb comes to just shy of $895 after tax and shipping. Not a bargain at all especially when I can get a new one from an authorized Canon retailer out of state for $899, free Fedex shipping, and no tax.

I think you can call the loyalty 800 number and get an additional 10% off, taking the price down to $730 or so. I keep forgetting about that.

How does this work for lenses? I only knew of this for camera bodies.
