I recently purchase a used Canon T3 (not T3i) from a private party.
I purchased 4 SanDisk Ultra Plus 128GB SD cards.
I have the camera set to store RAW and JPG images.
Of the 4 cards, 2 are working just fine, the other 2 store the JPG files but the CR2 files are corrupted (won't load into RawTherapee on Linux Mint 20.2).
Using an Insignia NS-DCR30D3K card reader.
Is there a limit to the size of SD cards for the T3? I have researched and I don't find mention of any limit.
Or, are the two SD cards faulty?
All cards purchased at BestBuy.
Only 3 cards shown in the photo, top left card exhibits this problem.
CF cards, for my 7D and (2) 50D cameras work just fine for the CR2 files.

Thanks for any assistance.
Jim

Just took a look at the owners manual on Canon's site. It doesn't specify a specific size card. But looked at a few other sites, and they were saying 32gig cards. Not sure if this will help you out or not.

Size limit or not, I would suggest you not use anything as large as 128 GB. I realize memory is cheap, but for various reasons this is a case where size DOES matter. In my experience, and this was first noticed with a 60D, with anything over 32 GB the image counter reads 999 because it is limited to 3 digits. Some people say “who cares” but I like that piece of information. Since a T3 predates a 60D, I suspect you image counter is also likely at 999 for a large portion of your shooting.

There is also a philosophy that smaller cards, swapped out for various reasons, are better in the event a card is damaged for some reason or lost. A 128 GB card likely could hold 2500 T3 images, RAW + jpeg (just a guess). If the card is damaged it is conceivable you’ve lost all 2500 images. I personally use 32 GB cards, they hold (I think) about 600 to 800 images, depending on whether I’m using my 60D or 80D. On an extended vacation in 2019, I swapped out cards daily, maybe 300 to 400 images. If a card was damaged or lost, I lost a day’s worth of shooting. Had I used a 128 GB card, I might have been able to have the entire vacation on two cards, maybe even one. But if that card crashed, I would have lost 1/2 the vacation images, maybe even the whole trip!

Have you tried to do a full Format of the two SD cards that you are having issues with, using the camera's Format capability (in the Menu)?

And according to statements from about 8 years ago, "I would not advise using an SD card larger than 32 GB in a T3."
and also, "SDHC refers to cards from 8 to 32GB. And SDXC refers to cards 64GB and larger."
And from Canon, "The T3i can use both SDHC & SDXC without a size limit"

https://www.outsidetheshot.com …on-rebel-t3-memory-cards/ (external link)

"The Canon Rebel T3 uses SD memory cards. The camera is also known as the Canon EOS 1100D in Europe. The camera has a single SD card slot.
Compatible memory cards for the Rebel T3 include any SD, SDHC, or SDXC card that has a capacity of 2TB or less. "

In view of conflicting info via the web, I say call Canon Tech Support!

Thanks for the replies.

The cards were formatted in the camera.

I have since sold the camera, replaced it with a 2nd (used) 7D.
