Amazing looking bird. What a burden that disproportionately sized beak must be. Takes energy and strong neck muscles, I imagine. Females must really like this for the males to evolve like this.

Great shot too, which is amazing as it’s green on green but the bird stands out.

The beaks have hollow air cells, called trabecula, and are actually lightweight. Hard sponge-like. Studied by engineers. It is thought that besides being lightweight and strong they also help with thermoregulation. They use them to dig stuff out of trees and other food sources.

Beautiful and interesting
Agree on Levina's comment re green on green. That was one of the first things I noticed and how clearly the detail showed on this.
Very well taken Pitter

Excellent capture Pitter! The bird is nicely camouflaged.

What an interesting and beautiful species! And what a great photo!

You have an amazing array of bird species in Colombia. . Was just listening to a Wild & Exposed Podcast, where their guest Hector Astorga was talking about photographing birds in Colombia, and how abundant the opportunities are there. . Would love to get there someday soon for a bird photo trip ... hopefully within the next couple of years.

"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".
