Old ornate cornace structures (like originally on top of the Black building) at the top of century old buildings are a pain to maintain properly. The constant repair of rot, painting, water intrusion into the building from separation of materials, adhering to the roof and upper walls as originally designed -- all that mess can drive a building owner nuts. That's probably what prompted the Black building owner to remove it at some time in the past. But man, when restorations of those old designs are done right, the street appeal can go sky high. Too bad the beauty of the design was removed. The current strategy to keep cornaces up to the original look is to reproduce a small section of the original, and clone it across the entire building by using MDF materials. The show This Old House does this all the time when reproducing the old look more economically.

More pictures!

This first picture is taken on the street at the Albion courthouse. Wish I knew what the event was!

Notice the wooden sidewalk yet again! Notice the person sitting on the sidewalk across the alley.

Buildings in downtown Albion. The New Era Office was the Newspaper in Albion. I do not have a comparison shot of this.

The next 2 shots are of the same building. My wife does not remember what this building was. I do not remember ever seeing this building when I drove around tiny Albion.

A house probably in Albion. The rest of the pictures I do not know for sure where these were taken.
Probably in the Albion area but that is just a guess.

Good set of pictures.
The houses remind me of Three Oaks, Michigan, where my maternal Grandparents lived.
Three Oaks lists itself as a village.

I have 'probably' been thru Three Oaks at least once in my life but can't say for sure when.

Three Oaks is about 5 miles East of New Buffalo, on US 12.
It's early claim to fame was the Warren Featherbone factory.
The movie Prancer was filmed in Three Oaks.

Thank you for the absolution. Will drink three cups of coffee in penance.

Very interesting series
The carriages in that top photo is odd.
The wheels look separate from the bodies. Well, on the one at rear.

The two of that old building on street corner shows progression from gas to electric lighting.

Are these houses https://photography-on-the.net …hp?p=19337992&i=i98177518 the same but with roof remodelled?
They're very similar in looks.
The ground has been built up at the house. Same looking footpath steps onto street.
