The constant repair of rot, painting, water intrusion into the building from separation of materials, adhering to the roof and upper walls as originally designed -- all that mess can drive a building owner nuts. That's probably what prompted the Black building owner to remove it at some time in the past. But man, when restorations of those old designs are done right, the street appeal can go sky high. Too bad the beauty of the design was removed. The current strategy to keep cornaces up to the original look is to reproduce a small section of the original, and clone it across the entire building by using MDF materials. The show This Old House does this all the time when reproducing the old look more economically.

Jan 30, 2022 14:41 | #148 This child wrote in post #19338117 Good set of pictures. The houses remind me of Three Oaks, Michigan, where my maternal Grandparents lived. Three Oaks lists itself as a village. I have 'probably' been thru Three Oaks at least once in my life but can't say for sure when. This child wrote in post #19338118 Sorry. I just couldn't help myself. OK, since you are truly "SORRY" I won't hold it against you too long, maybe just a day or three days maybe!! Charles
