Another awesome set of images. Can anyone see a year on that license plate?

The plate NUMBER is 2866, but the YEAR is not legible at all. At least not on my computer.

It's actually pretty easy. Just go to the Google home page. On the right you will see the word images. Click there to search by image. A new page will open.

Then all you have to do is paste the url of the image you want to look for, or just drag and drop the photo into the search area. It will say Drop image here.

I just dragged your image from this thread into the Google image search and Google did the rest. You can also use it too see if someone is using an image of yours that you posted online. Just drag the image from your computer into the search area.

That IS AMAZING!! Thank you for teaching me this trick!!

I tried a few other pictures but nothing came up like the first one you did. I will check out a few more.

Aha! It WAS a fort!

I guess they got rid of the cannon at some point, though.

You may be right. Several long lenses were lying on the ground near it.

Hi Charles, I have just found your fantastically interesting thread- Pippan pointed me to it - very well done indeed. I have not had time to read through it all yet but I will do.
I have found with all these little projects that they are very time consuming.
Keep ‘em coming Charles, I would like to add some scans if I may when I get back to normal and clear a few other more pressing things up.
Regards.

Here's my pic of the exterior of Castillo de San Marcos from 2019 in St. Augustine, Florida...

Actually pleased to see the old photo of the interior, as we didn't go inside the fort when there. Seen on top of the wall, far right, are two cannons. They were about to fire them off when this photo was taken. I wanted to get the firing, but missed it by seconds. A small fact about these type of firing displays is that they put only about 10% of the amount of powder into the cannons that would have been done to shoot cannon balls or mortars. Safety first, and you don't want exploding cannon parts flying towards tourists and reinactors if something got jammed or goes wrong.

Ray I just came from the Old Camera Collection thread and saw there that Pippan had invited you here, so I left a note for you there before getting here.

Yes feel free to add any of your scans you would like to add! I am very glad you have enjoyed this thread so much!!

That is so cool you were at Castillo de San Marcos in 2019!! It is too bad you were not able to get inside back then, but I do understand how those things happen!!

Yes, I agree. There were three of us and we had a lot on our plate that day. Besides, I've been into many old forts and have seen some exciting cannon firings.

It was, um, kinda loud (see the reinactor ducking and holding hands over ears). Also, it wasn't anything but a black painted basketball, or utility ball, at 1/20th the powder rating of a real mortar. The ball landed on the other side of the wall, about 150 feet away. It wasn't enough powder to even urst the ball. If it was an actual mortar, it might have traveled almost two miles, which is phenominal, because an iron ball that size would weigh well over 150 pounds.

Hey, Charles, keep them coming. Can't get enough of these. And I can't believe those old houses built from those rustic timbers and mud, or whatever. Must have been rather drafty in the winter.

Do you remember if at Castillo de San Marcos did they also do any Cannon firings? The photo you captured at Fort Macon was indeed astounding as Richard (avondale87) said!!

Glad to hear it was only a painted basketball!

It does make me wonder how in the world the men would load a 150 pound ball into the cannon!! Then for the ball to travel 2 miles!! How in the world did they know where it would even land?

Yes I will keep the pictures coming until that is when I finally run out...sad to say.
