Wow Charles! What a wonderful thread with great imagery, information and history. What a treasure to have the camera and the images/negatives along with the personal connection to that history! This is one of the best threads I've had the pleasure of following in quite a while. Thanks for sharing it all!

About the tree... Perhaps you misinterpreted which tree I was talking about. You posted a recent street photo of the house with a large tree out front, to the right of the walkway to the house, front yard, and about even with the right-most porch pillar. In the ancient photo of the house, and from the same front-on angle as the recent street view, there is a very skinny seedling tree shown in about the same place, and to the left of the phone pole. That's the one I was wondering about maybe being the current big tree.

I just deleted the post I put up taking a much closer look at the old house I was comparing to the current day house I thought you were asking about.
I realized I picked the wrong old house. They were not the same house at all.

So please go back and look at the house with the tree you are asking about. Looking UNDER the photo you can find the FILENAME for the picture such as "Albion 01 Scan 001-b"

Tell me the filename then I can answer your question better.

OK, to be more clear, your posted photo "Albion 01 Scan 001-b" and the later posted Street View photo "Harry and Bertha's house" is the same viewpoint, more or less. The big tree in the front yard of the current Street View photo looks like it is in the same spot of a sapling in the Albion 01 scan, To the left of the telephone pole. Tiny and tall sapling. Just below the second and third chimney of the old photo.

OK, now I have the correct two houses side by side

Does this help with your question? Click on the FILENAME if you want to enlarge the photo, click one more time on the image once you are at the Flickr website. I am guessing yes it is the same tree.

Looks like the same tree to me too. That roof on the left side. What did they do to it? Gads!

I looked at that (roofline). Looks like they added a skirt under the eaves. Not very becoming :-(

I think they added several feet of headroom above where the original roofline used to be and also added windows (I'm guessing since the tree is obstructing) on the white sides of it.

I am not a roofer or any construction worker. Now that you mentioned it and I compare the roofline on each image, it does look terrible! It appears to me at some time in the past perhaps the roofline was raised and they added some molding or trim that is not appealing to the eye at all!

I was in that house a few times, not more than 4 or 5 at the most in our early marriage when it was still in the family. Probably about 1975 or 1976 the house was sold along with a lot of antiques.

That house is no longer in the family.

Another bit of history about Albert, my wife remembers when Albert died, she was in her early teens, she went down to Albert's house with her parents to help clean out the house. She said the house with FILTHY, but also there was an upstairs bedroom, the room was FILLED literally floor to ceiling - wall to wall with just a very narrow path to walk with National Geographic magazines!!

You added this text while I was typing my response to you.

I disagree what you think about adding windows, they have the same number of windows before and after on the left side of the house.

Yes the tree was obstructing the view for sure.
