Since when did "unboxing" become a thing in equipment reviews? What's the value except to add filler to the review? What am I missing?

joeseph "smells like turd" More info | Feb 09, 2022 16:17 | #7 occasionally it's useful to know exactly what's included in the box when you buy stuff, but otherwise I see little or no value in watching any of these. some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

There are a number of items where an unboxing video is useless. People were making unboxing videos for t-shirts at one point. I bought a pair of earbuds recently and there were more unboxing videos than reviews. I mostly shoot with film cameras are there are a number of unboxing videos where the camera is being taken out of a box that the seller packaged the camera in so it’s not even the box that the camera would have come in when new.
