Hello! I am considering applying for candidacy in PPA's Professional Photographer Certification program. I'd like to hear whether it's worth it or not, how and why, and any personal experiences. THANK YOU for your time; I appreciate it!

I've maintained certification for about ten years now. I've got some questions about the new program. "Back in my day" we had to submit actual professional work for review...today it's a matter of directed exercises. I don't know.

But the basic benefit of the process is to give you more confidence that you have a certain degree of knowledge and technical ability, and you can fulfill directed photography tasks to the expectations of critical judge.

I have been in one location where people in my target market actually did pay attention to alphabet after everyone's name. Basically, though, certification is for your personal benefit rather than something to impress your clients.

Thank you, RDKirk. You've given me something to think about. I was surprised myself to see that the professional submissions were directed exercises. That's kind of what made me start wondering about what others thought or experienced. I appreciate you taking time to offer your perspective. Hope you are well!

You need to ask yourself, does anyone in your market care, if they do, then it might be worth it, if not, it's a ego thing.

Do what you love and you will love what you do, that applies to both work and life.
