I use to see flocks of Evening Grosbeaks in the Summer where I grew up and overtime, they seemed to have disappeared.
About a month ago, I was back to the house where I grew up and a handful of these birds were at one of the bird feeders there.
It was good to see them back but what I found unusual was the time of year they were around.
I don't ever remember seeing them around in the Winter time and there have been bird feeders at the house for many years throughout the Winter months.
The other picture is what I think is a Downy and not a Hairy Woodpecker.
It's amazing how relaxed this and some other Woodpeckers that come around are.
I could get to within a couple of feet of them before they would fly away.
