My Better Half has surprised me with a 7 day hiking trip to Cornwall, England. We will be based in St. Ives and each day we will have a choice of 3 hikes (easy, harder and difficult) around different places. Like St. Micheals Mount, Trebah gardens, Lizard Point lighthouse and the tin mines at Marazion, etc. We will hike for three days, get a day off and then hike for three more. I am really looking forward to seeing this part of England. On the days where wife and I do the easier hikes we should have time to check out the local shops and pubs. I am thinking of taking my old crop sensor Canon with 10-18mm, 18-55mm and 55-250mm. And just extra SD cards and battery, charger. I have a Lowepro Fastpack 250 bag so I will have room for my gear plus jacket, snacks, first aid kit, etc. Thoughts, suggestions, tips, hints! Am I missing anything?

If you have an interest in art there are a host of interesting galleries.... including a branch of the Tate Modern in St Ives. https://www.tate.org.uk/visit/tate-st-ives (external link). Lots of pottery, sculpture and painting went/goes on there. The area was the base for the Newlyn School https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newlyn_School (external link). The area was famous for its amazing light. I believe the sand there may have some iron oxide content as the evening light in some areas has a distinct pink tint.

I am very jealous - my favourite part of the world.

You have some gems on your list already but here are a few more you may wish to consider. I love just getting up early and wandering around St Ives before everyone else has woken up.

Minack Theatre
Botallack Mine
Porthcurno Beach
Newlyn Harbour
Godrevy Light House

Enjoy!

edited to add, you can take a day trip to the Isles of Scilly from Penzance too - amazing place but crossing can be quite bumpy.

Thanks for the tips. We leave tomorrow (God and WestJet willing) and I am really getting excited.

Thanks PSteven. I will look into those suggestions. I keep checking weather in St. Ives, adding clothes, subtracting clothes, adding photo gear, deleting photo gear. Driving my wife nuts.
