I went to a night hockey match with my Canon 6D and Canon 70-22mm L lens. I turned the camera on and deleted old photos via the rear screen. I then started shooting in TV setting. I then went to back arrow to review photos and this button would not show any photos taken. Switched over to SCN mode and started again. More photos taken but back button would not work show photos taken. I then went to Q, INFO, Live view and these buttons would not show anything on the rear screen. The screen on top of the camera was working fine as was the taking of photos. I went home after 90 minutes of shooting with the readout saying I had taken about 250 photos. I ran these photos through Lightroom on Laptop and they were fine in fact some quite good. I now find the camera taking photos but the rear LCD screen not displaying anything, except on turning the power off Sensor Cleaning. Handed camera over to a service technician and after 1 day said main board faulty and not worth fixing $700 AUD repairs, more than value of camera. Question is if main board faulty how come the camera still takes photos without any faults?

Guess it's a bit like if a P.C. has a failed monitor output component, the "brains" is still there operating correctly but you won't necessarily be able to see anything.

In terms of the tech's troubleshooting, I have a feeling that you won't know if it's the main board unless you have it swapped out - and even then it could be the display itself that's faulty so could be time-consuming & therefore costly to repair. Did they even take it apart to see if a cable had come loose?

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

KEH lists used 6Ds running from $436 to $588 depending on condition. What was the quote for replacing the main board?

Image editing and C&C always OK

Cost around $700 AUD can buy 2nd hand in OZ $600 or 5D MK III $1000 2nd hand? Will check if KEH posts to Oz.

Tech just said over the phone don't bother repairing main boards over $700 AUD. What I am also confused with is that on exit from camera the Sensor Cleaning is given on the same LCD screen, if screen broken why is this message able to be given?

As a side issue on the same night I also took several photos with my 70D, all of these photos came out with far more noise than the 6D, hardly any noise removal required in Lightroom, 70D a lot which leads to image decline. From my observation with APS-C v FF in a variety of shooting situations FF at least equal to APS-C but FF much, much better in difficult lighting and with difficult subject's especially dark-skinned people wearing cricket helmets while batting another sport I photograph.
