Thanks Jose, the proximity is the key to that, the perched birds are 22m at the farthest and about 10m at the closest.
For example, this is an un cropped shot from this afternoon at about 10m.

It’s fascinating isn’t it, to see a list of where a bird has been spotted. I’ve seen old birds, quite a number of them gulls, that had been all over Europe. I think it’s such a nice custom that when you report a sighting, they send you that bird’s life history. I’m always on the lookout for rings.

Yes it is! It does always amaze me just how far some birds routinely travel throughout just one year let alone over the whole long life of some gulls.
