Looking forward to Moorhen chicks! :p

Fingers crossed there are eggs in there! She seems to be very comfy.
Is the male involved in anything after the conception or is she on her own?

Isn't the second photo an already big chick?

I think you’re right! I totally misinterpreted Sid’s report there. I should have looked at the owls more closely. I can’t believe I missed that.

I’ll go sit quietly in a hole in the ground for a bit now…

It's been a few years but I saw a Vlaamse gaai/eurasian jay in our apple tree:

Tawney owl update...

No sign at the nest box from mid March, hoping she is sat on eggs
Starts showing at the nest box on occasion from 3 week of April, hoping she is brooding mostly
Seeing her more frequently into the second week of May, beginning to wonder if there is anything in the box at all

Good to see! They can grow fast, I thought we had young blackbirds, this is the first I saw of them(it? only saw one) a couple days back:

I did a crazy thing today. I put my camera up for sale on Marktplaats.nl (the Dutch eBay maybe, or Craigslist). It was gone within an hour and ten minutes ago two young people walked out the door with it. I can't believe it. I thought I would sort of feel the waters, not expecting any responses at all. But before I could blink the camera was gone. Amazing.

So I have no camera now.

Well, I still have my 1DIV of course.

On to an R6 Mark II. Yay! :-D

Your apple tree?!! You're so lucky as these birds are usually pretty hard to get close to.

I'm guessing you forgot your coffee this morning  The males are involved in bringing food to the nest and the young are dependant on parents for a further 3 months or so after fledging. We have heard both calling to one another quite frequently.

Lovely birds, but very flighty, very nice for a garden bird!

The owl is the first fledgling I've seen here this year, everything else is three or four weeks behind normal. Nice behaviour shots, rarely see baby blackbirds here, they are all in the bushes! :)

Ah good.

I’m curious, Sid, what happens after the three months? Will junior leave or maybe even be chased away?
