I did a crazy thing today. I put my camera up for sale on Marktplaats.nl (the Dutch eBay maybe, or Craigslist). It was gone within an hour and ten minutes ago two young people walked out the door with it. I can't believe it. I thought I would sort of feel the waters, not expecting any responses at all. But before I could blink the camera was gone. Amazing.

So I have no camera now.

Well, I still have my 1DIV of course.

On to an R6 Mark II. Yay! :-D

Good to know you have your eye on a R6 II and did not just sell the R6 due to the poor/ lousy spring we have this year. Given the rain the past days, you will not have missed a lot of perfect photo opportunities ;-)a during the in between 'era' .

Yellow wagtail in dutch tullip field

Weja

Was the bird stationary or is the photo from a burst where it just landed? I know the little creatures are light as a feather (or bunch of feathers actually) but I would not expect those petals of the tullips to be that rigid to be perched on... (Well, I know even less of flowers than I know of birds ;-)a ) . And a great photo btw.

Looks like a regular Eurasian Jay to me, Ken. Good catch and nice, sharp shots.

Thanks. I had no idea what they were when I saw them, but I knew I wanted a picture. Fortunately I had the "long glass" in the bag. Mine have a solid black cap and the ones pcs posted don't. I did some research and there are 40 recognized subspecies in 6 main groups.

The rain just won't quit, will it?

Not to worry though, I was exactly one night and one morning without a camera because the R6II arrived just before noon today! I've taken a few test shots out what Sid calls 'the magic window' and I think it is a substantial upgrade to the R6. I was shooting fly by's and actually said out loud "what a beast" (about the camera, not the bird :p ).

This morning, being without a camera, I dusted off my old 1DIV, just for fun. But oh my, it is sooo heavy. I mean, shooting with 1D cameras for 9 years or so, you are used to the weight, but after having shot with the R6 for 2,5 years, the 1DIV now feels like a really heavy burden. And then there's the AF. I still got the shots and files from the camera are still very nice but I really wouldn't want to go back to shooting with a 1D camera, or any DSLR for that matter.

Here's a fly by with the new camera. Just a Magpie.

Crazy.
And I bet they're all skittish as can be. Like they all are.
Well, except the ones in Patrick's garden. But I think he bribes them...

Sid!!
I shot Swifts from my window! I did! :-D

I swear, I had absolutely no intention of doing so. But the new camera arrived today and I was taking some quick test shots from home when suddenly a couple of bullets were shooting up into the sky: Swifts! So I pointed the camera at them and took shots. They're not good as the birds were high up in the sky and very far away, plus it's been raining so much here and the air is damp and well, it's not good. Still, the new camera locked on just the same and tracked them.

Just for fun, one shot, if only to prove that I really did shoot Swifts from my window. On top of the difficult conditions, it's also a huge crop and I shot in jpeg as my old Mac can't open the raw files. I don't know, I think it's kinda cool. :-P

A great series of shots, Lester. This is my favourite. Very pretty shot.

Thanks, I have some environmental shots too I quite like the positions of the birds:

Never heard of one. Fine capture!

Thanks.

They are a member of the buntings. Once common farm birds but like so much else in decline.

It's quite amazing to me. They all have that distinctive wing pattern and black mustache, but body color and face pattern are variable.
