colours: like it's from the tropics.

(The second one is missing a bit of sharpness, I tried(again) to get more reach with the 2.0EXIII and while it works better than on the 5DIV it just lacks that real sharpness)

I agree, here there are several who steal all the birdfood, even from the special feeders just for the small birds.

ha yes you are plagued by these greedy birds though I don't mind the occasional visit to allow me to take their photos. Sames goes for the rooks. The magpies are never welcome :)

Amazing colours. They are so beautifully iridescent.
Is that seasonal or year round.

They are beautiful birds

I will admit I am not an expert in birds but I do enjoy photographing them.

So on that note I won't say what type of bird this is. I would have said a baby thrush or maybe a dunnock or maybe a robin

Corvids, they're all great birds full of character, tricky to photograph nicely though, and I'm not sure why magpies aren't welcome, lovely looking birds....

I have always remembered someone telling me that magpies steal and kill young chicks so I have never been a fan. However I would happily take a photo of one if it did land in the garden.

Also not an expert but maybe Robin, to small for Thrush and beak not fine enough for Dunnock

Magpies are beautiful birds but they scream and fight and plunder nests of other birds, stealing eggs and young chicks.(and all the birdpeanutbutter....)

That's a pretty shot, Paul. Love the background colours.

It looks like a robin to me.

Thanks Levina - it was quite a distant shot and a high ISO - I hope it returns:)

I hid behind the pond and was able to get the neighbours red wall as a background which works nicely.

That's good separation from the background, makes the subject stand out effectively, recently fledged goldfinch nice and detailed.
The other fledgling is a robin.
Perhaps a stick cable tied to that feeder stand thing would improve the overall look. :)

Everything is food in the wild world, from the magpies cute fluffy chick meal, to the sparrowhaws victim, to the herons duckling meal, to the buzzards cute little bunny meal.......

Thank you :)

Good idea about attaching a stick with a cable tie - I did that to another feeder in the hedge to give the sparrows somewhere to stand when eating the fat balls but it is too dark to photograph that location.
There were 5 green finches a moment ago all wanting to get on the sunflower feeder so a few sticks cable tied would have been most welcomed.

As I am off to Skomer island next week to photograph the puffins I just thought the puffin is surely a wild bird in Europe too
