I've only managed to take sharp photos of dragonflies and butterflies in my own garden(can post here but not birds...) never in the field.

edit: if you mean in flight: never

No, in flight or resting on a flower, no matter what, they’re bad. Actually my one good shot was a White Cabbage in flight. I thought of posting it here, thinking it’s a BIF too :p , but better not. Before you know it people will start posting macros of insects. And those creep me out!

Superb photo! There is a young one that appears in my garden with its parent. They are so cautious and as soon as I open the back door they vanish. I did manage a shot of the young one this morning but the light was awful so I had to whack the ISO quite high.

Just had the delivery of the Canon RF 100-500 (hire only unfortunately) so I will hopefully capture it with that if I get lucky. I have not seen it being fed though - it actually looks bigger than the parents.

Starlings? Did somebody say starlings? :-D
Taken in Waterland (countryside just outside of Amsterdam. A large area with farmland, nature resorts, fields, water, some wetland and lots of birds).
I love flocks.

I've seen starlings feeding their young on several occasions in the past. Mostly in the park where I used to go to years ago. One time I came across a family with 3 or 4 baby starlings in the grass and I took some shots. Taken with my beloved 1DIIn. The parent on the left just looks worn out. And no wonder, these young starlings were relentless with their incessant begging for food. It's a hard life when you're a bird!

OK my bird feeder is getting very popular - they are even eating the Niger seed which no bird touched the whole of last year.

good job catching the swift, they are just that!

The trouble is swifts don't come down to the ground at all so it's very difficult to get them with any other background than the sky, unless you know their nest site where you get the chance to catch them with the nest site behind them, if you're quick! But mostly still against the sky, they nest in my roof and in boxes I put up for them but it's still mostly sky!

That is a lot of starlings - I wouldn't want that lot to arrive in my garden - about 30 of them at once is more than enough.

Oh I love the feeding photo - haggered is an understatement for that parent. They are so food driven - they don't even seem to care about me being close to them anymore when the mealworm first goes down

As luck would have it, my first trip to the garden with the RF 100-500 proved very fruitful. Needless to say I love this lens now and want one!

Thanks Levina - I am counting down the minutes until I clock off from work to get back out in the garden for more play with the lens

Couple more of the visiting young blackbird. I am a little concerned for its street sense as it is hanging around in a gap in the hedge under one of the feeders where the local cats tend to hang out in an attempt to nab a bird for breakfast or whatever they do when they catch birds. So I have been ushering it away from this dangerous location and hope it learns the way of the world very quickly.
