I hope it's different in a good way:-P

Here are the last I'll show from my boattrip, back to the gardenbirds.

The water in the second pic? My stomach remembers just how that feels…

Your garden birds are also very welcome!

Unfortunately not as common as they once were, approx 120 breeding pairs in Portugal. I use to see them quite a bit during the summer months up in our part of Portugal but they are becoming rarer to see. They breed in the canyons of the Douro river ( a photo I posted earlier in the thread ) and migrate to Africa for the winter.

Bird numbers are in decline the world round. It’s very sad. :-(

He looks so strong and powerful. Vultures do have surprisingly small heads to go with their massive body.

More great shots, Sid. All three shots are wonderful, but that second shot is fantastic. That’s a wall hanger for sure!

Thanks so much Levina, I've been lucky enough to get so many nice shots of this bird it's going to be difficult for me to choose just 1 for the wall. cheers! :)

It's more than sad. Along with insect and other animal decline, it indicates the state of ecological collapse on Earth. A recent study (external link) into the distribution of biomass on Earth found that humans now account for 36% of the Earth's mammal biomass and their livestock for another 60% (i.e. only 4% of mammal biomass is wild animals), and 70% of the biomass of birds on Earth is poultry, mostly chickens. Sobering statistics.

Still waiting for the wisdom they promised would be worth getting old for.

I was just hoping to see it, never expected to be handling it! They are an awesome bird to be sure, I've seen an adult female in the locality a few times and caught it just failing to catch a jackdaw in mid air, a couple of crows joined in and chased the goshawk off, all very distant of course! Our hen muncher may be this ones offspring.

Great to see the action. It always amazes me when I see birds mob or chase off a raptor.

Maybe it’s the time of year, Paul, with birds leaving or already gone, rain, chilly. Could be. It’ll pass!

The pheasant is handsome as ever. And I like the robin a lot. There’s a bit of a rim light around him. I think it’s a lovely pic.

Me too, love the Robin pic.

I have learned from this thread I better call this juvenile just a 'gull' ;-)a Did try to determine the species in the past, but had given up on it.

Luckily some species are more easy to identify, even for someone who isn't a real birder. A long tailed tit in a local park.

Yes, every system on earth is breaking down now. We’re doomed. I have no hope.
