I'd have assumed it was a house mouse!

Still waiting for the wisdom they promised would be worth getting old for.

Four of them?! Wow.

A tiny fraction of the flock at the moment Levina, frequent sparrow hawk visits not withstanding :p

Lovely scene and composition.:-)

How long did you have to wait and many shots did you have to take to get the one where they were all looking at the camera?;-)a

Cheers

Dennis

Thanks Dennis, the little birds are the distraction while I'm waiting for the buzzards  so no additional waiting involved, I took 10 frames with all four in and 3 of those had this pose, I was hoping for all four looking straight at me but only got 3 at once!

pcs wrote in post #19437887 (external link)
Yours are better trained, mine would't look at me:lol:

If they paid any attention to the training manual at all they'd know that when I said eyes right I meant their right not mine! ;-)a

awesome capture Sid. As others said about the view they present to the camera is very well done.

I'm curious. I assume the palest one is juvenile.
The extreme left - is that moulting? Or a developing junior.
I haven't seen changes in ours during the year, but have seen a couple of juveniles that lobbed up last year and were pale with none of their adult colours.

Thanks Richard, both of the tatty ones are this years juveniles, when the adults moult they replace coloured feather with the same thing so you wouldn't see the pale juvenile feathers underneath. cheers! :)

And for a look at how many there can be sometimes, if you follow the link to flickr it's a 20 second clip, my hide is 2m behind this camera and the branch the four are on extends out of the upper right of the frame

Typical of Starlings from my neck of the woods, Richard - Sometimes they descend on the birdbath in a flock and fight and frolic in it until all the water has been emptied and then fly off. I was going to comment on the markings - they all seem to have 'convict' markings - probably out on probation.:-)
The Blackbirds are friendlier and not so skittish. We have a pair that can be handfed - although they are a little bit nervous.

Convict markings :lol::-)

When I visited that place decades ago they told me that if the last raven disappears from the Tower, the monarchy will fall. Is that the last one by any chance?

Nice to see those European Goldfinches, although it is a bit 'harsh' as I saw quite a bunch of them during a walk last week. But they were just too far away to get detailed shots of them. These are some heavy crops from the R5 files with the RF 800mm f11 lens. Cropping in any further just was no real option. And the tree they were in was on a some island in a pond, so no option to move in further towards them. We just have to deal with what we can get ;-)a

Trust an Aussie to send my blood pressure up a bit more this morning:-(
Not only just the monarchy I’m afraid, but I have worries for the whole country at the moment.
Hang on a moment - I’m just going to rush up to London with a packet of bird food!:-)
