Agree, beautiful photos of a magnificent animal.
Are they the sort that would eat you?
I'd enjoy seeing one but be somewhat nervous of their intent

They aren't nearly as vicious as your drop bears. ;-)a

1,3, 4 look like Cinnamon Black and 2 looks like, probably(?) yearling or slightly older Griz; yeah? Nicely captured all the way around.

Correct on the identification. The Ranger said both were Pre-Adult males probably a little bored with hibernation and hungry. The grizzly was rooting for grubs.

As for Danger, the grizzly can be very dangerous. We were on the top a ridge with a lot of logs and trees between us and the grizzly. Still the closest I have been to one in the wild. My guess is there was close to several hundred thousand dollars of camera gear taking pictures of him.

The Cinnamon black was closer, but still far enough away to be safe. Too close if it had been a grizzly, but pretty easy to see he was not a grizzly by looks and behavor.

Thanks everyone for your comments.

Nice shots. That cinnamon black bear is beautiful.

If the grizzly shot was taken between Norris and Swan Lake Flats, it's most probably a cub of "Obsidian Sow", who turned 2 cubs loose earlier this year (Obsidian Sow is the grizzly that bluff charged a tourist that got too close last year, in a video that went viral).

Thanks for the information on the grizzly. Yes, was shoot between Norris and Grizzly lake. People said two different grizzlies were in the area the few days we were in Yellowstone. No one was getting close to the grizzly, and we were far enough away to be protected, but close enough to get some nice images.

The Cinnamon was shot between Mammoth and the Lamar Valley. We were just lucky, only one or two others were there when we stopped. The light was just right for the pictures.

Here is an image of the grizzly shot the next day in the same area but across the meadow. I was using the RF 1.4x TC with the 100-500.

Great encounters to have captured :) I know the feeling about 'too close'...heh. We were on a trail in Glacier Natl Park, Montana a few years back when a young, cinnamon black came ranging back along the trail opposite our travel and we didn't have anywhere to really go, so we just froze and watched, since it didn't appear to be concerned about us at all...it just kept nosing for stuff and kept wandering. Was able to catch one opportunistic snap while we were stopped. Thankfully it wasn't so close the 400 was too long, but full frame at 400 is still a bit physically closer than I'm particularly happy with, given the choice :p

I love Glacier NP, years ago we camped almost every year in the Many Glacier area. We just missed a great grizzly photo opportunity. We hiked to Red Rock Falls and had a great hike. The next day some campers hiked to the same area and were able to see down in the river a mother grizzly and two cubs. They were far enough away to be safe but close enough to have a good view.

I hope to return to Glacier soon, our last trip in 2017 was pretty miserable. Lots of fires, but the crowds were worse. Bumper to bumper traffic the entire length of the Going to the Sun road. We could not even get into the Many Glacier area, they had closed the entrance gates due to crowds. Early May and mid Oct. I have found are good times to visit Yellowstone. Need to find a good time to visit Glacier, the difference is Glacier is a long drive. I can be at Yellowstone West Entrance in about 5 hours.

BTW - great picture.

The crowds hopefully will be less due to cueing? Has that gone into effect yet?
We are staying in Yellowstone in late July but I've not even looked into it.

My understanding is Yellowstone has no plans for implementation of a reservation system. Two NPs in our State have reservation, Arches and Zion. Zion will also have reservations for some of their more popular trails.

Hope late July works for you. Our next Yellowstone trip is planned for mid October. Just as a lot closes down. I really want to do a winter trip. Will see how the budget looks after Christmas.

Usually, photographers are good at keeping their distance (I definitely wasn’t accusing you of being too close).

I just thought you or others here might remember the viral video of the woman and be interested that your bear was one of the cubs in the video. The woman wasn’t a “photographer”, just a tourist with an iphone who got too close. She ended up being sentenced to 4 days in jail for her infraction. On a side note, I was in the park that day and happened upon the same bears that evening.
