i mean who needs gps on a camera. just like you said you didn't really use it before. everyone has a phone that has gps capablities if you want to tag the location of something.

The GPS on the camera is much more convenient than matching time stamps to a track. I tag pictures both ways- camera GPS and from an external track.

EDIT: A nice compromise is if the GPS signal could be sent to the camera via BlueTooth or WiFi from a phone or another type of external GPS. That's how ForeFlight gets data from the BadElf GPS I mentioned earlier- BlueTooth to iPad to ForeFlight. The phone clock can also be set so the photo time matches too.

Me too I opted to buy the R6 and I am very happy with it, now the R7 with 32.5 I have been waiting for this crop mirror less body for extra reach and higher megapixel than R6 and got more than I wished. I am excited that I pre ordered it on May 12, way before announcement lol. Cheers.

Yeah, there's a lot to like about the R7. Yes, there are some trade offs, like a small buffer and a non-stacked sensor, but they're not deal breakers for me. Only deal breaker would be a really bad sensor performance in terms of noise, but I'm counting on this to not be the case. Fingers crossed.

Just imagine the detail capture you will have with the lovely birds you have in that area, and if you have to crop even a bit more, your final results should still be good. Between the pixel density and crop factor, it will be almost like having a 2x or more but without the complete IQ hit that typically accompanies an optical 2x.

I do want to see how the photos look at ISO 6400 and 12800. I plan to use this a lot with my 800 and there's no getting around high ISO with that lens.

I got my R very cheap so the cost of the R and the R7 would be far less than an R5.

I often have no idea where I am in the field and having GPS is handy. I turn it off though after taking a few shots, as it is a drain on battery.

He says the following about the battery grip:

"Is battery grip available for the Canon EOS R7? Unfortunately, no, and the grip positioning holes are not provided."

I can see Canon development and marketing people in a dark room smoking cigars planning this,

Well, all the 'net nerds keep saying that a grip makes a camera "pro"
We don't want the R7 to be pro, so let's just take the grip away and force those nerds to buy more expensive cameras to get that "pro grip"

yeah, you convinced me to get one with the speedbooster but i don't use it very much. it's so tiny it would be really awkward to use with my 500mm. seeing the size of this r7 being so close to the m50 turns me off a bit.

I find the problem with long lenses isn’t the size of the body, but the depth of the grip. I have an M5 and it has almost nothing to wrap my fingers around to hold onto. The R7 looks like it has a decent size grip (LP-E6NH battery, after all) so it should be good when supported with a Peak Design Clutch hand strap.

Oh absolutely, I cannot use it for more than an hour or so myself. By time a battery has no juice left, I am done for a while. But trips to Disney or otherwise, this set up is a dream, IQ is great, high ISO is great, and if it gets stolen, I won't cry as much as having a 5D4 or R6 stolen.

If my first new camera body in 7 years was stolen, I'd cry like a baby ..... and I'm a fairly tough old coot !
I tried to wade through the specs, but didn't find: is there a connection for an external microphone on the R7 ?

For the giant hand people, a grip extension should be easy enough. You just won;t get controls and extra battery.

Personally, I don't see getting a grip for myself, as this would be my backup/2nd camera in most cases. But that's just me. for anyone using it as their main camera,.. bummer.

I have to admit this is a head scratcher. It seems Canon charges so damn much for these grips that the profit margin has be considerable.

That's one thing I'm curious about: the level of detail that is captured with a 32.5mpx sensor, and a crop sensor at that. I have no idea how it would compare to the files from my R6.

I don't even have an RF2xTC now, nor am I planning to get one. I have the RF 1.4xTC and with the RF 100-500 that gives me 700mm. And I still also have that 'ridiculous' RF 800/11 lens that takes a 1.4x extender pretty darn well, even though it needs a bit of good light obviously. I can't wait to see how all that will do on an R7.

Hi Hammer. Yes there is!

I was just reading TDP review and I quote:

The left side of the EOS R7 (as viewed from behind) features HDMI (HDMI Micro out Type D, HDMI-CEC not supported), USB (Hi-Speed USB 2.0 USB Type-C connector also used for computer communication / smartphone communication / USB power), Headphone socket (3.5mm stereo mini jack), RS-60E3-type remote control terminal, and External Microphone In (3.5mm Stereo mini jack) ports.

I think they have an adapter for the accessory shoe that can connect an external microphone.

OK, the more I read, the more I realize I will be getting one myself.

30 fps at 32MP APS-C with R3 AF, for $1,500.00?! :) :)
