couldn't find it on FB but did a search and found one for $7 with free shipping from MPB camera in NY. Ordered it and will cut it up myself, can't be rocket science

...It will slow down battery changes however, you will have to remove the grip

Just loosen and rotate 90 degrees to clear the battery door?

It could still be a setting. Like the Preview AF in the AF menu that Dave mentioned? If it’s set to ON the camera will continuously try to focus.

this could be it, thanks

There are no contacts for the control duplication, surely there are contacts for a battery to send the camera power?! That's what he's saying. Not sure what happens if you just wire two batteries in parallel though and send it to the camera. That's certainly not what the grips we re used to are doing.

It wouldn't be rocket science to run control signals across those two power connectors as well as power feed should Canon choose to do that - would complicate the design for sure, but not impossible.

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

that would work, I will let people know

if I make it comfortable Jake could be out of luck for an R7

What you need, Jeff, is one of these. An original Canon GR-70 Grip Extension from ca 1991, for original Elan and Rebel models.

THIS IS A LOW QUALITY PREVIEW. Please log in to see the good quality stuff.
From the camera's user manual: "This dedicated grip extension with padded hand-strap provides a larger camera grip for improved holding comfort and security."

With this bad boy on your camera, you won't want to put it down! No, really, you won't want to put it down; there's no way to place it so it's stable on even moderately flat hard surfaces.

But I'm sure it seemed like a good idea at the time. :-)

Canon EOS R7, M5, 100 (film), and Sony α6400
I have an orange cat and a brown cat. In HSL, they're both orange.

Looking inside one of the TWO R7's I have, the only contacts in the grip are two copper "wires" for the EP6-N to contact. So no battery grip but that modification of the 20D grip looks interesting I will try it

It will slow down battery changes however, you will have to remove the grip

Copper?

Are you saying no gold plating?

They would have to be gold plated.

I read in the manual that Spot-AF is indeed an AF area that you can choose and as such it can track the subject! I have no idea how that would look, but this would be extremely useful for those tiny reed dwellers!

The focus system is different from R5/R6 and is more like the R3. You can indeed use Spot AF to pick the target and then the tracking takes over and the AF area is no longer limited to the spot (maybe 'Limit AF areas' comes into play then here?).

EDIT: After watching this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQwyMzlj1gE&t=400s (external link) and testing a few things it appears that 'Subject Tracking' is what makes the main difference, Wild Alaska recommends having a button assigned to toggle it on/off.

That wouldn't be a problem with a physically-long lens, though.

Besides, not everyone even puts their cameras down on flat surfaces very often.

You can put it lens down (with hood on) or just set it in your bag sideways.
