Canon EOS R7 pre-sales discussion, hypothesizing, and prognosticating

I spoke to a Best Buy employee today and showed her the website. The date for pickup keeps changing. She was surprised and said they're barely even getting R6's in right now.

My BB pre-order for body-only suddenly went from "pre-ordered" status to "by Jan 2, 2023" yesterday morning. I heard this morning that they were promising kits for pickup in the next few days, though, so I ordered a pick-up of the kit for the 20th, and went to cancel my body-only from May 25, and it would not allow cancellation, so I started a chat with a support person, and they first said that I couldn't cancel because it was already being prepped for shipping, but then when he looked at it again it wasn't making sense, because the arrival is 6 months from now. He talked to others and there seems to be a glitch in the way these body orders are showing on the website, and he couldn't cancel my order, but he put in a ticket for the website glitch to be fixed. In a couple of days if this doesn't change, I will challenge the credit card charge.

Well I'll be cancelling my Best Buy order. But not because of what you two have mentioned (although that is disheartening to hear). Milford Photo who was featured on the Northrup's review of the R7 called me today. I contacted them after that review posted and they took my information down. Never expected to hear from them. They asked me if I was still interested but it is only for the kit...I said absolutely! And since they're in CT, shipping to NY saves me on the tax. Give'em a call...ya never know!

I am sorry to hear this, but unfortunately not surprised by it. Their website is a server of empty promises. I had a complete debacle with BB about 3yrs ago for a MacBook Pro I bought online. What was supposed to be in stock, buy online, and pick up in store that day, turned into 2 trips to a store that did not have them, moved to online order with promise of delivery in 3 days, a week later no estimate for delivery and jumping through all kinds of hoops to cancel the order and 2 more weeks to get refunds on gift cards. Dumped their rewards, deleted their app, and will only buy if something is in stock, I can be holding in my hand first, and I can't get anywhere else for less.

Not to mention BB 15% restocking fee.

Thanks anyway. I was thinking of ordering as they said by July 21. The restocking fee is BS and likely they wouldn’t be able to deliver anyway. Hard pass.

So you see why B & H is so great to work with. Thirty day return policy no questions asked. Our local store around here is great too but their return policy sucks too. Can’t have too manny clicks and only 14 day return policy. Heh.

Don't worry, I didn't pre-order with them because of you; I did so because I have had luck with them in the past when no one else had the new Canon product that I wanted. They were due to go south on me, I guess.

Price went up by another $50.... i guess there is demand... now $2244

^^^And a place called Electronics Basket (on Amazon) is selling a used R7 (camera only) for $1860.

A friend just called, and his local dealer in Indianapolis is shipping his R7 body only today.

Best Buy has started shipping R7 bodies to those who pre-ordered on May 25 in the morning.

R7 body was shipped from Canon today! Ordered 6/23.
