Normally, the kit lenses for the last few generations of Canon releases were decent lenses, not some crap tossed in the box to appease the newbs. One could buy a model that included a kit lens and sell it and fair better than buying just the body. There was always a market for them. I know nothing about the kit lens on the R7 ... is that still the case or is the kit lens paired with the R7 something nobody wants/uses?

My understanding is that the only buyer of this will be R7 owners - which are very few.

also I already have an RF 24-240mm

The Kit lens is in fact an M Series lens.
I've not used it much, as I too have the 24-240mm, but it is MUCH smaller. The lens body diameter is smaller than the RF mount, so it tapers in the wrong direction!

I doubt many r7 users will have had much of a chance to form an opinion on it, but I bet M users would. Anywhere but the US I understand the M series is actually pretty popular.

Playing with burst mode again. I set up my C3 to do everything except enable burst, it won't let me save it as a custom.

I got the EF-M version with my M5 and I found it to be a decent travel lens. Small, light, good enough IQ.

I expect the RF 18-150 to be a decent lens, but not excellent, and I find it disappointing that Canon is not giving the RF-S optical side more respect. The RF crop camera line is not likely to grow into a pro-level system. However, I will probably buy the R7 with the kit lens because it will be fine for casual picture taking, and it will be easier to sell the package down the line with the lens.

The 18-150 is a decent lens, and a good walkabout lens. It can get close and does a good job across the range. check out the writing on the lens on the Crown Graphic, that is where to focus was

Neither did the EF-S as there never was a L series EF-S.

My contact at Crutchfield says they don't really know when allotments from Canon will arrive. Might get one here, three there sort of thing, and there are about four outstanding pre-orders.

I'm not really in a rush but it would be fine with me if there was one available later today. :) Shooting some volleyball tomorrow.

In the USA, anyone get "body only" after the very first day of release ?

Looks like kits are available from many sources (USA data)

I did from Canon USA about a week and a half ago.
Unfortunately, I was out of town, shooting my R7 kit I had found locally, so it went back to Canon.

Reports in the UK are cameras are coming through to dealers in odd 3-4 numbers; there is an impression there are more kits than bodies.

In the UK both seem to be on back order.

I have a back order since end of May for body only (with at the time the free EF adaptor). My supplier Parks is expecting the next delivery 19th August but they don't know the shipment size.

It seems Canon UK don't know what the will get from Canon corporate either and so can't tell the distributers.

That fits with what Castle Camera said. Delivery anticipated in mid-August, but no idea how many or what.

My body only was ordered on 06 June so I'm expecting a longer wait yet!

Age is a state of mind, and I don't.

Easier to capitalize on the increased profit of a kit at times of release especially when supply is controlled… Just like EV makers that always make the more expensive versions of a model in the beginning, then the lower versions come out later.
