I have read and reread the manual until my eyes are sore.

If it is there, I sure am not seeing it; how does one commit their work when finished ? I have been hitting the Enter key and it does then close out of Local Adjustments.

And, here is a major gripe = I use the brush to make a blue "mask" = immediately a big bunch of sliders appear --- RIGHT on top of what I am trying to see.

I press the "E" key and the sliders disappear --- however, a stupid black circle remains, completely centered over and covering what I need most desperately to see.

I have tried every trick I could think of and I cannot move either those sliders nor that black spot away from my work.

It would be nice to do this work within the RAW file, instead of afterward --- but this is bordering on ridiculous.

What am I missing ?

This had me puzzled for awhile as well. I find that after finishing with a local adjustment I can click the local adjustment in the top and the local adjustment menu will close. Your local adjustments are still in place.

Thank you so much !

Have you found a way to move the tools away to prevent their obscuring your work ?

I will have to check next time I am doing something in DXO. I don't remember having any issues with having the tools obscuring my work. I use local adjustments a lot.

When you start making an adjustment (for example, exposure), all you see is that adjustment bar until you complete the adjustment. If you want the local adjustment tools completely removed, click the local adjustment icon. You can always return to it if you want to make more local adjustments.

You can't move themt but you can hide and reshow them using the E key.

At least on my machine, pressing the "E" key only hides the sliders and still leaves a big black circle centered right over what I am trying to see.

By big black circle do you mean the border of a control point? if it is something else please provide more detail and if possible a screenshot. When in local adjustments the control point masks are always visible while editing. If you are finished editing local adjustments click on the Local adjustment icon on the top of the screen or in the Local adjustments palette. If you want the control point masks to disappear while editing local adjustments simply move your mouse pointer off the preview area of your monitor. You would not want to move the control points out of the way because they define the area of the image being edited.

The black circle has a paintbrush icon in the center.

In attempting to get a screenshot, I learned several things;

one being, it is impossible to capture a screenshot as, the instant I mouse out of the DxO window, everything regarding Local Adjustments vanishes; mouse back into the window and it all reappears.

Pressing the "E" key makes the sliders go away, yet leaves the big black circle with the paintbrush icon, centered right where it is most in the way.

With the sliders in view, clicking the black circle makes the sliders disappear and the black circle becomes much lighter.

Clicking the black circle again returns it to it's previous shade of black and makes the sliders reappear.

This is a very poor concept in having all that mess jump into view immediately over the work area and not have an option to grab and drag it somewhere out of the way.

When I am making adjustments, I like to see what I am doing.

You've discovered the answer to your question. Just mouse out of the preview area and all indications of local adjustments disappear, viewing is unobstructed. Move the mouse pointer back into the preview area and they reappear allowing you to make further adjustments.

What exact behavior do you want to see that is different than shown in the attached images?
