Sorry if this is in the wrong section, I'll move it if someone can tell me where would be most appropriate.....

I've just upgraded my Canon camera to an R5 and when I upload the raw files (CR3) I'm getting some strange coloured squares appear on some images.

Attached is a screenshot to show what I'm talking about.

Anyone run into this before please and know how to fix???

I'm currently using a relatively new computer (about 18 months old), have windows 11 (up to date) and last Lightroom CC and Photoshop CC again all up todate.

Any help very gratefully received.

Many thanks

Ed

I have the R5 and the same software and have never seen that. How do the pics look on the camera's LCD or EVF? Have you tried downloading them again from the camera or card? How do they look in other software like Faststone or Canon's DPP? Do the affected pics show the same pattern? Have you tried another memory card?

The image sure looks like it was corupted when it was copied from the card to the computer, or that the card is bad.

If the images look fine in DPP you could try turning off graphics acceleration in LR Preferences to see if that clears it up.

Thanks guys for your replies.

Original image OK it's L/R CC / Photoshop CC causing the issues.

Have spoken with Adobe who seem to point the finger at the computer ??? I have modern computer latest software so....... I hope not.

Images can be viewed in windows Explorer and come up fine.

Just pulling my hair out after spending all this money upgrading kit now I have these issues.

I did a trial of the R5 towards the end of last year and had none of these issues.

Just need to find a fix as have client images that I need to process

Have you tried switching the "Use Graphics Processor" to "Off" in Lightroom Preference -> Performance to see whether the problem goes away? There might be something wrong with Adobe's support for your graphics processor.

Edit: I see that Bob_A has already made that suggestion.

Instead of pulling your hair out, you could answer some questions.

How do they look in the Canon DPP software? that would be another view of the RAW data. I think Windows thumbnails might be embedded jpeg, but I could be wrong with that.

And I tend to agree with others, it appears to be corrupt files to me. Look at the files on the computer in another RAW processor, try another card in the camera, try another method to get the files off the camera (different card reader, direct connect). Keep trying to narrow down where it is going wrong. Worst case it is the camera itself, but you need to eliminate issues with the intermediate steps.
