My R7 kit arrived! I'm at work so I can't play with it yet. First impression is it is tiny and light! That part reminds me of my first Rebel. I'm sure it will feel a lot different once I put the EF 100-400L II on it.

My impression of the body was similar as well...until I added the same lens. A little bit heavier but not a bad balance. :-)

Perhaps we need a DPP crash thread also...

Nothing on the DPP manual, I suggest using the normal customer support path initially.

Rather than a DPP bug, this could be hardware, e.g. DRAM or power supply,
which might be logged by Windows:
https://www.partitionwizard.com …windows-10-crash-log.html (external link)

Consider reseating power supply and DRAM connectors.

I had 100 bursts to process from this morning, I closed all the programs, mainly LR and PS and proceeded to run all 100 without a crash. Pulled 56 images out of them and now will have to check for focus etc.

so while it is a powerful machine it at least doesn't like LR and PS running at the same time

Visiting in Vermont for month the of August. Trying to get back into wildlife photo mode and acclimated to the R7. Missing a lot but getting a few here and there. Found a nice swamp down the road that looks promising. I think this is an Eastern Phoebe.

I barely used my 7D2 from 2014-onwards. ;)

So keeping the 7D from 2009-onwards is a better utility for it.

So start there.

Did you get more use out of your 7D, when you had it?

If so, was the change because of something about the 7D2 that was lacking, compared to the 7D?

And if that's the case, would an R7 overcome that difference? Or would you perhaps be better off selling your 7D2 and getting another 7D?

Either way, it sounds like the 7D2 isn't doing very much for you right now.

Fantastic images!

Thank you very much.

I'm still getting used to the differences in controls and AF operation to my R5, I'm happy with the sensor output. I usually use auto ISO and forgot to change it when I put the flash on for the sleeping bees. So it ended up at 6400, but I think it cleaned up pretty well.

Spent most of the evening setting up the camera the way I think I might like it. I'm odd! I have the aperture on the front dial and the shutter on the back dial and rotate them to the right for more light. Just like the volume knob on a radio.

Went out and took a picture of Leroy Jr. with the kit lens.

I suspect sloppy resource management error trapping.

Glad it worked ok, lets hope that continues.

Reminds me of using my old full manual Canon Ftb. :-D

A couple of shorebirds with the R7 and the RF100-500+1.4t/c. My fingers and the touch screen don't always play nicely, so I unintentionally spent the morning shooting jpg only. I might have to try it more often.
