Thanks.

Indeed, the berries add color. They also make it easier to find the birds :)

Hello. On older Canon DSLR , i could use the live view magnification while also being able to focus (while maintaining the magnification).

With the R7, i am able to zoom and see the image both in the viewfinder and back screen, but once i press on focus the magnification is reset.

Is there any way ? There are cases, e.g. small birds, that i am unsure if my focus is on the eye or not and some x5 magnification would be helpful. Thank you.

Welcome to POTN! I’ve used LCD magnification with manual focus using the focus ring on the lens. That’s what I did for the moon pic in POST 19403019.

I never tried magnification with touch autofocus. I didn’t know that was even possible on the DSLRs.

Edit: I think I did try touch AF with magnification when I first got my R7. I remember sitting at my kitchen table, going along the depth of the napkin holder. I’ll try it out when I get home tonight.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

My favorite - break & brake!

The funny thing is, I am making these mistakes more now than ever. I often post something, go back and read it, and fix the homonyms. I think that what has happened to me is that for most of my life, most of what I read was written by professional writers who also had proofreaders give them feedback. Think about it; before the age of easily-accessed public forums, how much stuff did you read that wasn't professional or edited by proofreaders? Even letters to the editors of newspapers were corrected before the public saw them. It was mainly proofreaders and school teachers who read a lot of misspelling and poor grammar, but they were on the lookout for it because it was their job to correct it.

Now, after having seen so many such errors in public forums as I read along in my mind's voice, which pronounces them correctly, I have started to feel like the homonyms are interchangeable, and have started unconsciously mixing them up myself when I am not conscious of choice.

I re-enabled touch exposure (not touch AF, I was mistaken before but I never use the feature) and tried with the RF-S 18-150mm lens with AF enabled and magnification at 5x and 10x.

What I found was that if I touched the screen with magnification on it had no effect. It didn't take an image, but it didn't reset the magnification either (unless, of course, I touched the magnifying glass that's supposed to change the magnification).

I think I'm doing it more due to professional writers. Most often now it's online news stories. The size or credibility of the publisher does not seem to equate to quality of writing.
It should not matter on this forum. It's an international forum and English is a 2nd, or 3rd language for many. Even for some with English as a first language, for various reasons language can be challenging. I like the ease of reading correctly written posts but I don't think we should judge or criticize people who make mistakes.
There are plenty of posts, well written, that are irrelevant due to comprehension fails. I have done it. A little tolerance costs nothing and IMHO makes for a more pleasant forum.

This all started from a somewhat whimsical comment I made regarding Tom's signature. Having said that, I totally agree with what your are saying both in spirit and intent. Nothing I said that started all of this was meant to be mean-spirited at all. I just found the signature hit a soft spot with me. I was raised by a professional writer and college English professor. I can't help myself, because my mother would rise up from her grave.

I will say that there is a huge difference between not knowing any better, and sheer laziness or somebody just not caring. I forgive the former and the latter, but I notice and take note of it, as when it is the latter; it is often a reflection of their work and professional self-worth. I think I do a pretty good job of deciphering between writers not composing in their native tongue and the lazy ones. You can tell the ones that simply never learned also. Most times, they all speak for themselves. :-)

Now back to our sponsor, the mighty R7.

I once heard a quote attributed to Confucius: In language, it is only necessary to be understood. That's our goal when we write something in posts. Spelling mistakes and grammar errors obscure meaning, requiring a second or third read of the passage. Of course we all make mistakes, and some of us don't have an English-language background, but we should still do our best. (This also extends to describing issues accurately when asking for help, and including crucial information so we don't have to guess or ask. :-) )

The R7 takes nice pictures. A metallic-green sweat bee. Taken with the RF100mmL macro lens.
