H+ works fine with them, and you can use the Canon charger or the USB one that comes with them. That's good to hear. I was looking at those too. Age is a state of mind, and I don't.

I bought two "FM" batteries with a two-battery USB charger a year or more ago, as my older, lower-capacity batteries from the 5D2 and 7D era were now getting weak, and they behave exactly like Canon batteries. I have never really found Canon batteries to be better than the better after-market ones. In fact, I have found myself needing to clean the contacts of batteries more often with Canon batteries. I have never purchased a Canon battery since buying my first Canon in 2003, other than what came along with a body.

I just tried again with a Wasabi and H+ was available and worked fine. H+ even works with my old dying Vivitar battery. Image editing and C&C always OK

Still waiting for the wisdom they promised would be worth getting old for.

And as an equally valid bit of anecdotal evidence, I've both a Canon and Watson battery from 2015 for my 7D2. The Canon battery is original to the 7D2 and still works well to this day. The Canon battery for my Rebel XSi is even older and still works fine. I've never had to clean any contacts.

I still have the original canon batteries that came with my canon rebel xti and they still work well. I think I got that camera new in the summer of 2007. I’m not one to get aftermarket items if I can help it. I find most of it to be junk. I rather pay the little higher price and know I’m getting a quality item that should work out of the box with no issues and will hopefully last. In my experience buy cheap buy twice. AntonLargiader Goldmember More info | Dec 04, 2022 10:20 | #3521 That battery thread has a lot of info in it. I did verify that the R7 does seem my Wasabis as LP-E6 (as they are marked) rather than LP-E6NH yet the R7 still does H+. We don't have green vs. white H+ like the R5 does, right? The manual only mentions performance slowing down with discharged batteries, not changing to a different speed mode like H. Image editing and C&C always OK

The general principle is true, but does Canon have any special edge in battery design, over the better 3rd-party battery makers? We aren't talking lenses, flashes, etc.

We aren't talking lenses, flashes, etc. A person never having to have cleaned a battery contact at all may just demonstrate how low the humidity is where their batteries typically spend their time. In the summer, it gets pretty humid here in NY, and I put spent batteries in a pant pocket so that I notice them there and remember to recharge them. I have typically owned 2 aftermarket batteries to every Canon battery, and yet, I have only found myself having to clean the contacts on the Canon batteries, and this is in recent years with relatively new Canon battery form like the ones used in the 5D2 through the R7, with their very small contact area (thin slots). I use a piece of thin cardboard in the slots to clean them. I just assume that canon would use a higher quality materials in their batteries vs a third party manufacturer. Also being engineered by canon to work with the intended cameras vs being reversed engineered by who knows. Paying half the cost means they have to be skimping somewhere to bring down the cost. For peace of mind I would rather spend the extra few dollars knowing they will work together as intended. I know not everyone thinks this way but it works for me. $1500+ for a camera or more, what is an extra $25 to $50 to know you won’t hopefully have batteries issues or maybe other problems down the road. In the past I would have agreed with your post 100%. Lately, I'm not so sure. The last two new Canon's I purchased (R6 and R) each had to have the battery replaced under warranty. Next time around, I might give the Neewers a try. My small but growing -=Flickr page=-

I use them in an alternating cycle, so Canon1>Neewer1>Canon2>Neewer2. I decided to use them like this so I could make a fair comparison between the Neewers and the Canons; I had my doubts about the Neewers, to say the least. Much to my surprise both Canon batteries will only recharge to 98% resp. 99% now whereas both Neewers still take a 100% charge. I did not expect that. Wild Birds of Europe
