At some point I’ll get one to go with my R3. It looks like an incredible camera for the price. The crop factor will definitely come in handy. I hope one day we see a crop camera with the BSI sensor of the R3. Until then this camera is a no-brainer. It should be a great seller for Canon.

Cant beat this price and for what I will use it for....$1500 is a no brainer...It will pair with my 1Dx2. If light gets too low then I will have to get a FOV with my feet for the 1Dx2 I have a new in box R7 in my Den, not opened yet as I rented one and am waiting to see if I like the R7, if I do like it I will open it otherwise return it. butterfly2937 Cream of the Crop More info | Jun 28, 2022 21:22 | #383 PinholeR5 wrote in post #19397539 I totally agree! I've been using an R5 for almost 2 years and the R3 since February. I've been using the R7 since last Thursday. I am very impressed with what this camera delivers. At $1500 it is an awesome value! I had been using the R3 + R5 in APS-C mode (or just cropping in post) for the extra reach. The going back and forth between the AF framework of the R3 and the R5 is a bit annoying. The R7 pairs with the R3 much better than the R5 in both reach and AF framework consistency! I think it will pair very well with the R6 as well, though I have never had an R6. I do wish Canon would issue a FW release to upgrade the AF framework of the R6/5 to be the same as the R3/7. I also think this will be a huge hit for Canon and that will lead them to release a more capable APS-C camera (with battery grip, third dial, better button locations, size, BSI sensor, etc, etc). Hard to tell if it will be sooner, say with an R7P (for pro) or later with an R7 MKII. I guess it will depend on how large the success of the R7 is and Canon's assessment of demand vs other projects they have in the pipeline (R1000, R1, lenses, etc). At any rate, I think wildlife photography is one of the segments that is unlikely to be encroached into by cell phones and Canon will continue to invest in it as a strategic segment. I could not agree more I absolutely love my R3. The R7 would be a perfect companion until we see a BSI sensor in a crop camera.

Archibald You must be quackers! More info | Jun 28, 2022 22:17 | #384 JayLT wrote in post #19397465 This should be a shock to absolutely no one, but the R7 can do a nice job on macro shots. I'm still working on lighting and settings but I'm sure I can work it out. Obviously it reminds me a lot of the 90D, one of my favorite macro cameras. This will be a lot of fun to work with. Being able to use the RF 100mm Macro and the R7, the combination of the 1.4x magnification and 1.6 crop is really going to allow some nice close-up shots! These are a couple really quick shots and edits. I have a few mantis in my yard...I think I'll try to find some later tonight. ![]() ![]() ![]() I was waiting for the first R7 macro shots. Not that I was doubting its macro capabilities. I'm still wondering how the R7 might improve my macro photography over my 90D. Canon R5 and R7, assorted Canon lenses, Sony RX100, Pentax Spotmatic F

AntonLargiader Goldmember More info | Jun 29, 2022 07:00 | #388 The video makes the R7 look really good. That said, practically all of these comparos are in good light or at the very least are shot where the photographer needed to struggle to get the ISO that high. Who needs to shoot stuff in direct sunlight at ISO 32,000? Someone needs to go to a poorly lit gymnasium and do this stuff where you need to struggle to keep the ISO that LOW. 1/2000, f/2.8, ISO 25,000. That's where I'd be at many gyms and I'd love to see a back-to-back of the R7 and the 7D2 under those conditions. Image editing and C&C always OK

Not the amount of light, but the type of light. Dave
