The challenge is with maintaining focus. The acquisition is a bit slower than, say, the RF 100-400 or even the Sigma 100-400, but not too bad. The problem is that it keeps losing focus and having to reacquire quite frequently. For smaller birds, it can get pretty bad. I've seen some reviews and comments that describe "pulsing" with the R7. Maybe that is what I experienced. Not sure. The 1.4x TC makes it worse (using the Sigma TC-1401) I've only had it for two days with quick trips to the park, but it is quite noticeable.
I don't recall any of this with the R5. Will try it out sometime.
