A couple more with the Sigma 150-600C. I have to say, the AF has been much more challenging than I recall when I was using it with the R5, but you can get good results.

Nice photos, the bird really stands out. Challenging in terms of acquiring and sticking with focus, or in terms of setup?

Still waiting for the wisdom they promised would be worth getting old for.

Thanks.

The challenge is with maintaining focus. The acquisition is a bit slower than, say, the RF 100-400 or even the Sigma 100-400, but not too bad. The problem is that it keeps losing focus and having to reacquire quite frequently. For smaller birds, it can get pretty bad. I've seen some reviews and comments that describe "pulsing" with the R7. Maybe that is what I experienced. Not sure. The 1.4x TC makes it worse (using the Sigma TC-1401) I've only had it for two days with quick trips to the park, but it is quite noticeable.

I don't recall any of this with the R5. Will try it out sometime.

Maybe your sigma requires a firmware update. My Tamron 150-600 G2 requires a firmware update to work properly with the Canon R series bodies. That is the response I received from Tamron.

Yes, If I remember right you have to install microsofts Raw Image Extension

This has nothing to do with the R7, but I recall there was a pretty lively discussion here about squirrels a couple of months back. This is an albino squirrel I saw in downtown Washington DC in December, 2018. This was a quick grab shot with the EOS M5 (great camera but not a speed demon) and the EF-M 18-150. Heavily cropped.

Since the R7's RF-S 18-150mm kit lens is just the EF-M 18-150 with a different mount, I can say there is some relevance to this thread, however tenuous it might be. ;-)a

Yes I tried that with no effect, I can't find it in the App list so perhaps I botched the install.

Update: OK went through the install again and this time it has taken.

Not that. Both lens and camera have the latest FW. It seems to struggle with smaller subjects. For example, it struggled with the bird below but had a much easier time with the squirrel, even thought the latter was with the TC. Both images are just Faithful Camera Matching Color + Auto Tone in LR.

While I expect that in general, my R7 doesn't seem to have the same issue with the RF 600 f/11, the RF 100-400mm + RF 1.4TC or the Sigma 100-400mm + S TC-1401.

First time out this year with the R7. Went up to the Out of Africa wildlife park in Camp Verde Arizona on a nice cloudy Saturday. With the cool weather the animals were nice and active
