Still waiting for the wisdom they promised would be worth getting old for.

AntonLargiader Goldmember More info | Jan 18, 2023 06:28 | #3922 According to the manual, there's only a small (2~10%) improvement using UHS-II for electronic shutter. For mechanical shutter it's really mixed... some image formats (like reduced-size JPEGs) have no improvement and some (CRAW) are much faster. I haven't really experienced the buffer as a big problem, but suppose using a UHS-II card would help since I shoot CRAW to one card. Image editing and C&C always OK

I wonder how they measure that? AFAIK, based on my experience, the R7 just stops taking new images completely when the buffer fills, and will not shoot again until about 40% of it is written to the card, so yes, over a long period of time you can take more images with the shutter butter held down, but it won't be a new rate; it would just be due to shorter pauses. So, anyone who does not typically fill the buffer should benefit nothing from a faster write speed, except the ability to remove the card sooner after a burst is complete. For mechanical shutter it's really mixed... some image formats (like reduced-size JPEGs) have no improvement and some (CRAW) are much faster. I haven't really experienced the buffer as a big problem, but suppose using a UHS-II card would help since I shoot CRAW to one card. Page 943 of the advanced manual. I bought a card capable of only 45MB/s writes a few months ago because I forgot to bring an empty card with me, and even shooting in e-shutter at 30fps, I never felt any slowdown, because I never held the shutter down long enough to be affected by card speed. So, cards with faster writes may or may not be useful to a person for stills, depending on their own shooting habits, and file output(s) chosen.

Any positive or negative experiences with any particular brand or card? I use UHS-II SanDisk cards most of the time. On occasion, I'll use a UHS-I SanDisk card since I have a few lying around. I can't say I've noticed any real difference while shooting, but then I didn't do any specific tests for that. I like the improved speed when reading as I am impatient on the download to the computer POTN is comming to an end... The big migration has started

(SanDisk 128GB Extreme PRO SDXC UHS-I Card V30. Read/Wrightspeed 170/90). It works similar to my SDXC UHS-II V60 card that I use for my R5. I'm not shooting often in 30fps, just 15fps in ES or EFCS so with short burst it's no problem at all. I'm not going to buy any fancy V90 card because my quality V30 card works just fine for my shooting style. I got the SanDisk Extreme Pro (from that first link I posted) for my R6II - but 64GB. It was $50 off at a local dealer. Image Editing OK

I use Prograde UHS-II V90 cards, and have some V60 cards for extras just in case. I've never had an issue with them, and they are very consistent with their actual versus rated speeds in my own tests. Depending on what you're doing, you may not need a V90 card, but I have noticed a difference when using them in cases where I'm shooting a lot of longer strings of shots, like an airshow. They are able to write a few more images, and the buffer clears faster as well. Is it a huge difference? Probably not, but it's enough that I don't mind having a couple of them in case I want to use them. Flickr stream: https://flic.kr/ps/se6hB

Have been using Prograde UHS-II V90 cards in my R7, also shooting video at times, with zero problems. Don't usually shoot very long bursts, so maybe overkill for me. I started using ProGrade when I got an R5 and some folks were having problems with some of the CF Express cards of various brands. Dave
