The bullfinch is a favourite bird and always lifts my heart to see them.

It's been ages since I have posted anything here. I was keeping an eye on this Kingfisher and hoping to grab some shots when he was heading for a meal. Unfortunately, he took off in the opposite direction and the end of his dive and him coming back up was blocked by the growth. A bit of cropping on these. Fortunately, did get him bringing his reward back to the perch!

Well done. There are kingfishers here but I've never had a chance for a photo.

Thanks. I had many opportunities to shoot them at this location but few of the sequence where they were diving. Seems like the ones I witnessed were getting further and further away from me! Not the best photos but...I hope to do better next time!

FYI I contacted Tamron a few months age and the lens requires a firmware upgrade to play nice with the R bodies.

Yes. I have updated firmware with the USB dock. I have used mine on an R, R6 and R7.
It just seems to work better on the R6 than on the R7. But that is most likely because of the crop factor.

Interesting. According to the emails I received from Tamron the dock will not work for this firmware upgrade. You might want to dig into it. As I don't have an R mount body I have not had my lens updated.

Are you sure your lens is not the first generation, G1?
Mine is the G2 which can be firmware updated via the USB dock. Tamron hasn’t listed any firmware updates that can’t be used with the dock.

My mistake, John. C.fn2 only works with zoom lenses or when you change lenses or attach an extender. I use it for my 100-500mm and find it incredibly handy.

I don't think I would use that feature, because I don't personally draw a line at a certain minimum level of exposure and try to stick with it, but I would like an option for the pupil size to stay the same when adding/removing TCs with the same main lens. If I happen to touch the Av control when I have a TC on a wide-open lens and cause the camera to think I am setting the Av value, I don't want it stopping down when I remove the TC.

I had the G1 for 7 or 8 years then upgraded to the G2 in 2021. The firmware was released in 2018. I guess it sat on a shelf for three years

Interesting. According to Tamrons website, the newest firmware is from 2018. I have never heard mentioned a newer firmware and especially not one that Tamron would have to apply themselves. I wonder why it isn’t available for download and upgrade via the USB dock.
That said, I haven’t really had any issues with the Tamron 150-600mm G2 on R, R6 or R7.
The crop factor combined with high pixel count (compared to the R6) is perhaps making small vibrations more visible as blur. That didn’t seem as bad on the R6 with 1.4x teleconverter though.
